Anyone ever used the "free" anti virus packages online? Have to renew my Norton subscription shortly but would be interested to know can anyone recommend a reliable anti virus /firewall etc package online?

An ex-colleague of mine recommended I used the free trial on the MSN homepage; he's a bit of a techy and declared it as good as any other anti-virus software. I've been using it for over a year and I've never had a problem - the free trial is 18 months I believe after which period you can download it again (according to my mate that is!). It's called CA anti-virus.

AVG is pretty good too. I'm really not sure what kind of real added value Norton etc. give you for your money.

I use AVG recommended by my sister who does all things IT. Never had any problems.

Norton was the worst A/V I've used, kept it upto date yet it my old PC died with 4 major virus's on it :suspect:

I use McAfee now & love it! it only costs me a tenner a year.

AVG for me. Not a fan of Norton products in general. I used Norton Go-Back on my laptop - thing ground to a halt.

I use Computer Associates, which is the same as SL's i think. It's called E-trust, i had them installed on all the companies pc's too. never had a problem so far.
