What are you watching

I saw bits of that via gogglebox and didn’t like the look of it at all.

Danny Dyer’s syrup was very distracting for me, but I loved his Freddie way more than I thought I would. Katherine Parkinson is just fabulous in everything - I had more issues with Taggie and Maude than any other characters I think. taggie wasn’t tall, dark haired and shy enough to what I expect from the book - and Maude just wasn’t Maude enough for me.
All the others I was on board with though, even though they were different in my mind’s eye - at first I was horrified that RCB wasn’t blonde and drop dead gorgeous, but after a little while I’d definitely warmed to him - he’s got “it” which is sometimes more what it’s about. Wasn’t keen on the change from the book Cameron - but the character is good, just different.

I liked “Jump” Kirsty - you’ve just got to suspend all knowledge of horsemanship, racing and training and just take it for a very long read of fluff that you don’t have to concentrate on. The fact that it was about racing helped a bit, but also - I like the Rutshire books, it’s nice to remember what it was like ( the orchestra bus journeys from Appasionata 😁😂) the only one I’ve not liked so much was the art one - I think that was called “Pandora” but you might like that one cos it’s much more grown up ( it was too much thinking for me 😆) and of course all of them being set round Gloucestershire helped me like them as well. Just don’t spend time overthinking them - IMO that’s not what they are for!!

Just binge watched the remaining 5 episodes of Middlemarch. I knew I liked it when it was first shown but had forgotten just how good it was. I don’t usually burst into tears at the end of a series but this one really got to me. I’m sure I bought the book with the intention of reading it after watching it the first time but never got round to it.

Forget Colin Firth as Mr Darcey. Rufus Sewell striding across the lawn in that long red coat is much better (sigh). I did have a vague memory of the end of the series but couldn’t remember how they got there. Think I’ll rewatch Bleak House next.

My daughter signed us up for a 6 month free trial on Amazon Prime.Stayed up late last night and watched The Cup which is the story of Media Puzzle winning the Melbourne Cup.Brendan Gleeson plays Dermot Weld.It has a certain amount of blarney and a few cliches but I was definitely glad I watched it.

I've seen it at least twice. Might be buried in my PVR.

A decent enough watch but not in the same league as the likes of Seabiscuit, more on a level with Secretariat.

I love The Cup - there’s also Ride Like a Girl which is about Michelle Payne if you wanted a go at another racing film, or you’ve got Dream Horse as well.) seabiscuit and Secretariat are both good as well ( though with Secretariat being a Disney film you have an idea what it’s going to be like before you start!)

Edward O'Grady won the actor stakes with a budding James Bond ( Pierse Brosnan) playing his part in Murphy's Stroke.
Poor DK was left with an actor who played , the General, The Guard and a guy stuck in the "Shithole " In Bruges.
Edward didn't even qualify as a vet, to make matters worse.

Gleeson must have wanted the role badly because he doesn't look remotely like DKW.

You missed out Racing Stripes you ought to be ashamed.

You know what - I keep telling Sophie she should watch Racing Stripes and we can’t find it free to air!! 😂

And of course if you want entirely predictable schmaltz you’ve always got Dreamer…
