I’m loving Amandaland! Four deep into the series via iPlayer.I don’t mind films that are hard to watch ( although I did give up on The Deer Hunter the other night; I felt that, as I’d never seen it I needed to watch it as part of my cinematic education, but I gave up and watched Amandaland instead) but some hard to watch films are boring. I didn’t like There Will be Blood. In my youth I remember being transfixed at the cinema watching Ken Russell films. I’m trying to think of the one that made me feel numb right from the very beginning. The witches or something? Of course, it was The Devils….
Still going, still confusedI’m very confusedI’m using the theory of I really like James Marsden though, so I’m keeping going while assuming he’s not going to do anything rubbish.
I’ve finished Amandaland and am now watching a series called The Cockfields on BBC catchup which I missed first time round. Gentle humour similar to The Detectorists but, unlike that I think the humour would only appeal to old people like me. A nice folky soundtrack, too. Beth Orton I think.I’m loving Amandaland! Yes, watched both series. Both very good, but Bobby Ball is better as Sue Johnson’s husband, than misery guts Gregor Fisher.
Oh, just his character in The Cockburns. He’s even more miserable and dictatorial than Bobby Ball. No, sorry, GF is a very fine actor - too convincing at times!Len, can I ask in what sense you're referring to GF as a 'misery guts'?
Beautifully put. There’s a Chinese film on Amazon that I’m hoping to watch at my daughters next week.
Moe - have you come across ‘Am I Being Unreasonable?’ Came across it on iPlayer last night. Very funny, very dark.I’ve been rather taken with Ben Rufus Greens character ( he was so sweet and funny) in The Cockfields and have found out that he has is on utube in something called The Washing Up Club. I’m just watching an episode in which they have a power cut and Ray’s got a LED head light like mine. I’m beginning to worry if I really get on my kids nerves on the rare occasion that they stay with me given that I’m a fussy worrier. It was a bit of a shock watching series two only to find that two of the actors were different. Didn’t realise that Kim Catrall was initially chosen to play the mother. Can’t imagine her playing that role. Can’t seem to find the Christmas special on catchup. ( now going to get stuck into Everyone Else Burns. And Derry Girls, which I’ve never seen. It’s part of my Trump antidote strategy).
I often have Digging for Britain on a loop at night; it’s such easy watching. There was an interesting item about the gypsies that lived in the New Forest the other night. And Johnny Flynn ( swoon) does the music. I don’t like Alice’s pink hair; I wish she’d revert back to being blonde. I think she’s the female swoon equivalent of ( back in the day) Michael Wood, who got me and all of my friends interested in archeology ( how shallow are we!).I like archeology programmes, in particular anything by Prof Alice Roberts. She can grab my trowel any time she likes!
Decided to watch series two, although I struggled to remember what happened in season one. Just realised that Jurgeon is Charlie Cooper. Keep thinking that Daisy May Cooper has had lip filler since series one and can’t understand why so many women are having lip filler. Why would anyone have a needle stuck in their lips? And the last episode ( which I’m watching now) is about lip filler.Moe - have you come across ‘Am I Being Unreasonable?’ Came across it on iPlayer last night. Very funny, very dark.
