Who was the best horse never to win a Cheltenham Gold Cup

has to be a horse that has gone close or run into a superstar with a gap back to the rest. Thus exotic and wayward

Cant have complete non stayers (may as well have spirnter sacre) or ones that couldnt handle the course, especially remembering that with enough class they should at least make a fist of it. desert orchid did and was far more naturally inconvenienced than some
 
Tied Cottage won by a street only to be disqualified later because theobromine was detected in the drug test. It turned out his feed was contaminated through no fault of the trainer. Would he have won without it? Almost certainly.

Beef Or Salmon was a much better horse than Ardross makes out but it's true that he never was going to win a Gold Cup.
 
Exotic Dancer for me. Completely agree with those who say he was unfortunate that Kauto and Denman were contemporaries. Many vastly inferior horses have won Gold Cups.

Such a shame we never got to see what Gloria Victis might have been capable of. Rushing Wild was another whose full potential we sadly never got to see

Beefy couldn't even get placed behind WAr of Attrition - the idea he would have beaten any of that lot is mad. At 12-1 Wayward lad is the bet
