Willie Carson

If we have proper racing fans on here saying that Melish etc couldnt hack it on C4 then its maybe time to forget about even having it on "cooncil telly" The clowns that currently do the job only damage the sport imho. I demand knowledge, form debate, and an ability to talk to camera. The current bbc/c4 crew are sadly lacking. (bar the few we have mentioned) As a sport we need to stop thinking we can bring in more racing fans by having ex rugby and snooker players presenting. Big Mac is a disgrace and should not be anywhere near a TV screen. Lesley Graham has no obvious ability to present. Emma Spencer is just a bit of skirt to look pretty on tv. If i want that there are other channels to watch. Give me god ugly men and woman talking about things they actually understand.

Cricket is the only exception as in listening to Hussain, Atherton and Botham is an education. Funnily enough it is the sport with the least hype as well.

Jim Courier was excellent during ITV's coverage at Roland Garros. McEnroe is good also.

Martin Brundle goes without saying.

No expert on Cycling but Sherwen seems OK. Barry?

NFL is pretty hit and miss.

Sherwen is terrible.

A doping apologist. Too lazy to follow the sport closely.

Anybody non-English speaking is by default a "specialist climber".

Any anglophones are heavily favoured in his comentary.

What happened to the dude who use to do it with Stephen Roche in the Europsort days? He went on a bit but was quite funny.

Personally I think Brundle is a ....... Although I did used to enjoy watching him being a ..... and shoving microphones in unsuspecting drivers faces. You could see the sinking feeling in their eyes.

David Duffield. I think he may have retired.

I think the Eurosport commentators are good, especially Sean Kelly. His voice is hard to listen to, particularly if you're not Irish. But he is a real student of the game.

Well, she's an ex-jockey and from a racing family so she should be fairly knowledgeable which I happen to think she is and for that reason I can put up with her being marginally more attractive than McCririck.

If they want knowledge AND looks maybe they should audition jinnyj.

Even if you are Irish....Reads a race very well and has great insight into the way teams think

Well I don't think Willie takes himself too seriously which is quite refreshing in an industry with too many big heads and know it alls.

Be pretty hard to take yourself seriously if you were Carson given what a total joke he is.

I remember attending a Ladbrokes hospitality event at haydock (back when they sponsored the sprint cup) and Willie Carson was the guest speaker at lunch, talking the attendees through the afternoon's races. He almost went through the card! He was tipping winners right, left and centre.

Now, I can't tell a racehorse from a clothes horse but I know a well put together mongrel from a pedigree dog and I've only owned a heinz for 12 years, so when someone of Carson's experience tells us a horse looks to have a bit of quality about it I think we should sit up and take notice, notwithstanding the fact that looks no more entitle a horse to win a race than to make a pretty woman a good sh*g.

Willie Carson has true grit, unlike the aristocratic or academic lot who are basterdising racing from the ordinary man on the street.

Persad has had a personality bypass and Claires a stuck up rude snob.

You can tell they both hate Willie and its embarrassing to watch. I don't want to watch their ignorant behaviour.

Good on Willie for not joining the head up your ass club.

Time to re-tell my favourite Willie Carson story...

During what used to be the 'Scottish Week' (in mid-July) he was hauled in by the stewards at Hamilton one evening after riding one down the park. The stewards asked him what his instructions had been.

"To hold the horse up," replied Carson.
"For how long?" asked the stewards.

"Till Ayr on Saturday!"

Massively wide of the mark on every conceivable front, Marb.

Im never too bothered about him messing up a fact or two (which sends the anoraks into spasms) but its his manner. I remeber well his sneering comments about the public and the media when he was riding and even now he gives the impression hes doing everyone a favour by being there

What's wrong with Nick Luck? Very knowledgeable and a great presenter.

To say he's worse than Carson is a bit like saying Aung San Suu Kyi is a more oppressive human being than Bashar al-Assad.
