Very good it is too . If we are talking rioja can i recommend Vina Herminia 2000 from Waitrose at £6.49 it was on offer at £4.99 the other week it is cracking stuff

I will look out for that one Ardross. A Waitrose just opened up near me 'up-north' as well. Cheers.

Are you sure it is not just the red you once drank ? I can think of a few that have given me headaches . One called Boulevard Rouge which was Thresher's house French red in the 1980s £3.99 a litre and a half

It hurts to think of it

I have tried a few different ones and they all have the same effect unfortunately.

On the cheap Sainsbury's shite in Ma's fridge now....... Will be on a finely tuned racehorse in less than 12 hours....... ...thank God I tend ot ride better when pissed!!!!!!

As for red, I cannot drink the stuff - any more than one glass & I am sidelined with the most horrendous migraines. It's a bugger as I love the stuff!!! Many a time I'd spend a happy night swigging a bottle or two of Shiraz Cabernet.....

Out with a few friends tonight and chose to stick to the house red.

Turned out to be a rather nice 2003 Temparanillo, which I certainly wouldn't turn down again.

Definately developing a penchant for spanish red...

UK women feed steep growth in wine sales - 16-Feb-2005

British women continue to drive sales of wine in the UK as their love affair for wine continues. In the last 5 years wine sales in the UK have grown by a substantial 30%, hitting £7.6 billion in 2004 from £5.8 billion in 1999. According to analysts Mintel, the market will leap by the same percentage again, to reach almost £10 billion in 2009.

"The Bridget Jones generation of working women with time and money to spare for luxuries such as wine, have undoubtedly played a significant part in boosting sales," says James McCoy at Mintel. The high-end price increases have also helped sustain market growth, they claim.

In the UK today, as many as seven in ten (69%) women drink wine, compared to just three in five (62%) men. Although men are just as likely as women to drink wine at home, in pubs, clubs and restaurants, a mere one in five (21%) men drink white wine, compared to some 36% of women and while just one in four (24%) men opt for red wine, as many as three in ten (31%) women do so.

* No surprise there - wine in pubs is generally disgusting .

And I landed a right result at Tescos on Saturday night. The under-age teenager on the check-out held up the bottle of vino I was purchasing to get it cleared by her elders & then forgot to run it over the barcoder. So I ended up with a free bottle - (Was I going to admit it? WWith their profits? Was I hell - I legged it through the exit convinced the security alarm would go off or I'd feel the strong silent hand of one of those guards on the door) - Thank you Tescos! Next time I'll make sure its a bit more expensive!

Got a 3 litre bottle of Lambrini for £2.99 the other day from the off-license/paper shop up the road on my mates advice (we were meant to split it between us) but it's absolutely vile stuff. Consequently nobody can remember much about friday night and what happened between the 6pm opening of said alcohol and getting home at about 3am, but we defo had a kebab and lots to drink.

Will have to try out some of those on that list for ability to get you drunk value.

We went to the one further up to save money, Thresher's is also nearby aswell though.

Not been in Oddbins since first year though - too expensive.

Saved money maybe but what about your liver ? 3 litres of Lambrini must be £9 - could have a couple of decent bottles and less liver problems from Oddbins

You know what Radio 1 say "One Liver, use it".

Might pop in to Oddbins later actually, never know they might be cheaper now.

It might not be as bad as Lambrini but this shite I'm drinking now is terrible!! My mother opened the bottle of Chardonnay I had bought & put in the fridge when one of her paramours turned up at the weekend & replaced it with some vile stuff from the village shop....

There is another wine scandal tonight - several thousand bottles of Blossom Hill have been withdrawn when it was found they contained wine

In the attempt to rid the taste from my mouth of the lighter fuel I was bought today I have been forced into drinking Baileys now.....

Not sure Brian but they sell Irish Cream or Irish Meadow or something like that, it's cheap Baileys at about £4 a bottle. :)
