One of themajor meetings of the year, run over the fairest flat track on this sceptered isle.
A few thoughts on the first day:
Gunmetal (1.55) ran a blinding trial over 5f of this track in a hot h'cap in May, coming from stone last to finish close-up behind Duke Of Firenze. Joe Fanning, who knows the horse and the course well, takes the ride.
His low draw's a slight worry, but the strong pace and the extra half furlong might mitigate that.
12/1 freely available as I write.

Makawee 4.15 has improved since stepped up to this trip, running Mancini to a hd on his first try over it (same terms tomorrow, but the latter has a poor draw for a prominent racer). Probably didn't last home on soft ground latest, but showed enough to suggest he'll be too classy for these.
10/1 generally.

Also done the e.w. double, which would be a fine start to a cracking meeting.

Going to try and lay Constantinople at 2.02 to balance the balance the books-everything else is good for me.I fancy my
chances of scooping the lot.

Personally I thought he had a hard race at Ascot and could blow out completely here.I think the Ballydoyle horses are out of form at the moment-Elarqam is the one that I think will punch above his weight.

Looked like, for some reason, that Crystal Ocean faltered for 100 yards a furlong out. Going from 3/4l up to a head down before coming back. Good but not great horses close behind. Stunning eyeballs out race all the same.

I've been looking at the Nunthorpe tomorrow, Ten Sovereigns is about 13/8 fav at the moment but from an initial look at it's form and prev winner stats there's a fly in the ointment for it in my opinion. I'll double check later on but it appeared that all but two of the last 18 winners had at least placed at 5f, where as Ten Sovereigns has only ever run at 6f. I'm not seeing it as an immediate deal breaker but I would say it's a serious negative.

Firmament (3.00) has a brilliant record in this race and at York as a whole. Ground in his favour, and looks sure to give another good show today.

Good Luck All

A couple of each way plays for me today on

2.25-National League @ 22-1 [Paddy Power] 5 Places..Fahy juveniles are flying

3.00-Club Wexford @ 40-1 [William Hill] 5 Places..Rarely runs a poor race

Odds on Frankies's retirement following Enable's Arc given the emotion in the saddle after her win.

Five furlongs is a specialists distance in my opinion.
