YorK Ebor Meeting

York would be a lovely jumps track.

And Yorkshire needs a big galloping Grade 1 jumps course. Great idea Archie. What better than turning it over to us jumps guys. Most of the middle distance horses running there will end up over hurdles anyway. Gosden could make a good jumps trainer as well with a bit of time and advice from Nicholls and Henderson I reckon.

Not sure Frankie could cut it though. I suspect Frankel would have faded up the hill in a Champion Hurdle, and Enable would fall agonisingly short in a World Hurdle even with her 7lb allowance.

Well I've tried to make sense of the Nunthorpe re previous winner stats and nothing has given me any great epiphany.

I still don't like Ten Sovereigns for it but we'll soon see if I'm very wrong about that! But cross referencing the stats with my ratings I get in order of preference :-

Battaash
Mabs Cross
Soldiers Call
El Astronaute

If I had to pick one it would be Battaash though, but I might do some ew's and/or an exacta & trifecta on the rest.

I'd be taking the each way angle that one of the bigger priced horses have some cross formlines that don't put them too far behind Battaash. Of those I'd side with Garrus at 40/1 as the least exposed and still likely to be on the upgrade. Also he seems to favour good to firm as it'll be today. The other I'd consider is Rumble Inthejungle 80/1 for similar reasons. Also split stakes with 365 offering 16/1 and 28/1 6 places.

Given the drop back to 10f and the market drift, it's reasonable to assume Eynhallow 1.55, was out for no more than a warm-up latest, after 14 months on the missing list. The same logic also dictates today should be the day.
Fanaar 4.50. Despite being held up off a steady pace in a valuable Goodwood h'cap, and having to be switched a number of times as a consequence, stilll ran a blinder to finish 4th. Showed he stayed 1m in the Britannia.

I think Dettori is a master of his craft, one of the 3 best flat jockeys I have seen ride. But he is a total whore for the camera and has been finding a way to hog attention since he was a claimer. Blubbing is just a new one.

His 'lookatmeeee' trick that annoys me most is how he miraculously arrives to kiss the winning jockey in a classic/arc jockey room just as the camera arrives for the interview. That said, he is good for racing and I shared a sauna with him at the gym in Leopardstown on the morning Godolphin cheated Galileo out of the Irish Champion in 2001 and he couldn't have been more pleasant.

As someone who worked with him in his early days 1988-1990 at Cumani’s and who has seen him on and off since, I think you are probably very accurate in your analysis. If I bump into him at the races, he can be all over me (especially if I am with owners for example). However he can equally completely blank me if there are more important people around and I find that just a bit ungenuine.

Yes; the way he used to home in on someone else's success used to really annoy me. But I do think he's good for racing and, ignorant as I am about such things he does seem to be a master of his craft. I think his tears were genuine yesterday, though.

Cape Byron ought to win the 3.00 as the form of his Victoria up win has been ratified again and again since. and didn't have the speed to lay up with Ten Sovereigns over 6f since.
The gp1 penalty should see off Laurens.
11/2 freely available, looks the bet of the week, imo.

In the Ebor, I'll stick with King's Advice, just keeps on winning and looks the potential group horse it'll need to take tis enormous prize.
8/1 B365.

Well this is the first time I've tackled the Ebor with the previous winner stats and then cross ref with my ratings approach.
I don't come to any great revelations and I'm not going against the fav like I did with Battaash in the Nunthorpe.

My choices are in order of preference are :-

Raheen House (IRE)
King s Advice
Withhold

Cleonte (IRE)
Desert Skyline (IRE)

I've done win bets on the top 3 and I might do small ew or place bets on the two outsiders. Again probs I'll try for the exacta and/or trifecta

Out of interest - how do you calculate your jockey/ trainer scores?
