York Ebor Meeting

Just posting a few minor fancies today as I get them on.

In the Strensall, I've taken 10/1 Duke Of Hazzard ew w/o Real World at 10/1. On my figures this is the only one that might be overpriced (I have him jt second-top behind the fav) but the lack of the third place was putting me off a bet. The 10/1 is probably his true price so I'm effectively getting the third place with this bet and if he runs second to the favourite I win a watch (quite a cheap watch, admittedly).

Edit 1 - yesterday morning I thought Safe Voyage was value at 15/2 (Jt top on my figures) so his current 12/1 is a must-bet ew for me, but to modest stakes just in case the ground is too quick.

Edit 2 - 4.45 - Qaader 15/2 - probably my strongest fancy of the day.

Edit 3 - Chester - Deja 10/1 - not a York race but I put it up ante-post for the Ebor and it runs in this easier race so sickness insurance is in order although I've no idea if it's trying.

I reckon that will be it from me for today at the very least. I'll be out until teatime so will have to content myself with catching up on the replays later.

Hope somebody punts the Ebor winner and wish everyone luck today.

Enable money ticket for him gone, Stradivarius another money ticket for him.....

What an absolutely fabulous race, both front two giving everything. Reminded me a lot of dear old Persian Punch.

Reminded me of the Grundy/Bustino duel in the Diamond in the 70s. That was supposed to have been the race of the century - this Stradivarius/Spanish Mission one may prove to be the race of this century.

I followed my heart with Pogo in the 3.00 each way.

In theory he'll be outclassed but I remember mentioning him one day when he won last season or the season before, (Windsor possibly)?

16s seems a fair price.

Come on people, what wins the Ebor?

We've got a vote or two for Tribal Craft.

I've got it between Global Storm and Quickthorn, at current prices I might chance Quickthorn each way.

The Melrose looks hot as hell.

Maybe Ravenscraig Castle with a featherweight for the Scottish and Iain Jardine?

Deerie me.

What a run from Ravenscraig Castle.

Balding!

Galileo /Fantastic Light would be a choice on the flat if picking something, but a long way to go. The huge difference in this century is that everything will be recorded and get to be seen. :)

Hughie Morrison made an interesting point today.

He's quoted as questioning why Sonnyboyliston was dropped 1lb for the Ebor after finishing sixth the time before at York, when Quickthorn, who finished 8th in the same York race wasn't dropped a pound.

Quickthorn only beaten a head, would it have made a difference?. Quickthorns a nice horse to look forward to in future anyhow. I wonder if he could jump a hurdle?

Wouldn’t surprise me at all Martin. The dam has foaled a couple of hurdlers and Nathanial has of course sired some good ones. Quickthorn was gelded the back end of last year too, the trainer/owner combination have previous with dual purpose horse Not So Sleepy and he’d be suited by winter ground.

There’s a lot of similarities between him and Not So Sleepy in fact with regards their flat ratings but I’d expect Quickthorn may be a more reliable proposition if he were to go hurdling (assuming he could jump) as he’s not so headstrong and seems a thoroughly likeable horse.

His to-be revised rating will be getting close to making life difficult in handicaps now and he could be one of those stuck between handicaps and graded races so we can but hope…

Yes. Good thinking re Quickthorn, chaps.

Worth mentioning he beat the 114 rated Berkshire Rocco last night by two lengths giving that horse 4lb in weight, when apparently losing a load of lengths at the start, (haven't watched it yet). Quickthorn is a very interesting horse now.

Quickthorn around an 11/2 chance for the Cumberland Lodge over 1M4F this Saturday at Ascot.
