Absolute legend and a thoroughly good bloke. Rode a horse I had a share in one day so got to meet him as well.

Fingers crossed he stays healthy to the end of the season. An absolute credit to his profession, and it will be a long, long, time before we see his like again.

Legend.

Amazing jockey extraordinary strength ,skill and dedication.

So many awesome rides - from getting Deano's Beeno even to take part to Make a Stand ruining away and his extraordinary ability to organise Synchronised .

My immediate thought was Townend - his sudden appearances riding for AP's pal Rebecca Curtis have been since McCoy made his decision apparently .

My thoughts exactly, Ardross. He's been getting quite familiar with English racetracks this season.

A touching tribute from famed interviewer, Rishi, as the news was being broken to him. "Oh, well what can I say? Congratulations and good luck".

Incredible horseman, who has always given his all to us punters.

Couldnt believe my ears when he announced it but then again he hasnt been the same this season much better with the media etc and allowing a film crew to follow him round?

Marked 7th March in my diary as thats the date when tickets released for Sandown..... SOOOOO gotta be there!

Brilliant decision to announce it to Rishi - he was never going to be able to respond quickly and ask any intelligent or penetrating questions

I'm pleased he's retiring. Simply didnt want to see him stay around a little too long.. An amazing sportsman by an standards.

Who could forget Wichita Lineman at the festival 2009??

Good Luck AP, absolute Legend, Unique Sportsman & gentleman..!!

Hope he ends up top jockey at the festival...!!

Where would you rate McCoy at the moment- definitely behind Ruby and Geraghty but what about Townend and Cooper.

I find all jockeys much-of-muchness, to be honest. Horses make them look good, rather than the other way around.

In all the time I've been watching racing, McCoy has been - and remains - peerless in getting horses into the Winners Enclosure, that have no right being there.

Who in their right mind would put themselves through what AP did?
I cannot see any one jockey trying to do that job of riding Monday through Sunday for such lousy prize money.
A lad with half a brain would concentrate on the Saturdays and the bigger pots and leave "the 4 F's", now 3 F's to the second jockey and conditionals.

For our younger non Yorkshiremen posters The 4 F's were Fontwell, Folkestone, Fakenham and "effin' Plumpton"
