Fairly shocking contest, but he could have won by thirty lengths if he wanted; bizarrely traded bigger than SP with about two and a half furlongs to run!
ZULU CHIEF, who won by 20 lengths at Naas on Wednesday night, is expected to go on to better things, according to both trainer Aidan O'Brien and jockey Johnny Murtagh.
The half-brother to Hawk Wing, who has a host of big-race entries, trounced his rivals in a 1m2f maiden on what was his second start. He had finished third in the Wood Ditton Stakes at Newmarket on his debut in April.
After the Fusaichi Pegasus colt's win, Murtagh said: “This fellow could be the real deal.”
Yesterday O'Brien confirmed the high opinion in which Zulu Chief is held at Ballydoyle.
He said: “Zulu Chief is a lovely colt. We've always liked him and made no secret of the fact. We gave him time off after his run at Newmarket and he is a horse to look forward to for next year, if not for later this season.”
Zulu Chief has Group 1 entries in the Juddmonte International and the Irish Champion Stakes and is also entered for the Celebration Mile at Goodwood next month, but, according to O'Brien: “We won't be rushing him and there are no plans for him just yet.”
