Betfair Hurdle Sat Feb 12th 2022 Newbury

Huge price considering he beat last years winner and finished a close 2nd to the favourite's much more talented stable companion.......Not that I could have picked it out witha porcupine

Broomfield Burg is a contender and if it came up heavy maybe a horse like Metier could at least run a place.

The horse I have not given enough of a consideration to is Glory And Fortune. Only up 3lb for his Christmas Hurdle run and he will be still be several pound better off with Tritonic and Soaring Glory for that run.

I know Kempton is a different track to Newbury but I feel Glory and Fortune just took a bit of time to come to his best this season so I am considering Glory And Fortune for a bet.

Yeah cheers you can thank me for me this post but the closer the race got the more I doubted it and changed my mind etc.

I then saw 20/1 and let it put me off!

I wish I had re read this post this morning.

Thanks all the same.

The winner holds a Champion Hurdle entry.

The runner-up holds Supreme/Ballymore entries.

There's a more sober reaction to ILTMI's run (I thik Alice P said it was in front just after the line) compared with Ballyandy and Al Dancer who ended up favourite for the Supreme. ILTMI only cut to 25/1 but I reckon that's probably about right given the strength of the Irish.

Very underwhelming when the novices blow out. Knappers Hill will be interesting when the stable are back in form. Jpr One was like a horse that burst.

I'm not sure the novices did blow out. ILTMI ran his race and might be worth a small mark-up [for chasing the pace which was sub-13s per furlong in stretches]. Lord Baddesley was a novice which I mentioned was 3/1f to beat First Street and Royaume Uni last time. He's got close to FS this time after missing the start and has beaten the well-backed RU.

Knappers Hill was tanking turning for home and looked dangerous at one stage but couldn't go with the leaders. He's probably a good novice. Jpr One can probably be forgiven this disappointment.

The winner was a novice-on-a-curve last year and has taken his form up a couple of levels this season. I still can't believe I didn't back him at 20/1.

I'm certainly not underwhelmed by the form. I can understand that the market leaders have disappointed to an extent but I did say beforehand that the favourites were too short and the outsiders too long.

I think it's massively strong form but the Irish will probably have another Belfast Banter lurking for the County. Apart from backing GAF in the Betfair last year I also backed Milkwood which ran well in the County - probably ran to form - but ended up well beaten.

BB pulled very hard in the middle section. I think it did very well to be still in contention between the last two.

I reckon if Hendo-McManus have one in the County it will be worth close scrutiny.

They’d only gone a half-mile and I text a mate to say they couldn’t go fast enough for BB. He did get there though, and found zilch - I don’t think it was just a case of him having burnt energy.

Glory And Fortune raised just 5lbs and ILTMI 4lbs.

That might make connections rethink their festival targets. They will still be very well handicapped (imo) but if the handicapper is right their chances in the CH and Supreme/Ballymore respectively are diminished.

They'll also be more vulnerable to Irish bandits in the Coral Cup and/or County.

Saturday's beaten horses are probably much more likely now to go down the handicap route, I'd imagine. Or chasing.
