2000 Guineas

Yes, last year after watering it seemed the kiss of death to be drawn high. Haven’t heard if they’ve tinkered with the watering system to even it up, but I doubt it! I did have NT nailed on, but I’m all of a dither now.

A high draw was a little bit of an advantage at the Craven meeting. You could also argue that the 2000 Guineas field last year lacked depth and there were an awful lot of average colts drawn post 4

He does but this race has a history of not being won by the best horse. I think he'll win but you're bold going in at that price.

I haven’t hedged my NT positions yet, but I’ll look to the earlier races (none with enough runners today) to see if there’s any evidence of low draw bias after the watering.

Regardless of any bias, I wonder if the other jockeys will decide among themselves to edge to the far rail early to take the race to Coroebus and try to force Buick into a decision about whether to go with them on NT, thereby making him cover that wee bit more ground and keep him wide. I suppose, though, it's 90% likely they will come down the centre and let the race unfold of its own accord (which would be boring!)

If the 6f hcap is any guide, they're definitely going to come straight up the middle. The far side looked disadvantaged. The winner got into the main centre group quite early.

I suppose it's possible the pace up the dead centre set by Justanotherbottle was a touch too fast and ended up creating a misleading impression.

Honestly I think the draw isn't gonna be a huge factor. Last year Lucky Vega, Master of the Seas and Poetic Flare were just the best horses in the race.

Totally agree...

The whole field went slightly across in the mile race and there didn't seem to be any bias!

Looks ok to me, just sticking with NT.

Superb result for Euro and all Coroebus backers.

Really good winner yet take him out and Native Trail has gubbed Luxembourg et al.

I got a right run for my money from Eydon too but I don't think I got the fourth place ante-post.

I know he gets some exceptionally bred horses, but Charlie Appleby is an exceptional trainer. And don’t forget he was only there as an interim trainer after Al Zarooni got done.
Applebys horses just look in a different league physically. And I don’t mean artificially. They just look superb. Every time. Contrast with the others in the paddock, these look like Classic winners.

I can’t tell one end of a horse from another but even I thought the Godolphin horses were in a different league to the others. Both absolutely stunning and such presence.

DO needs some reading lessons. Was a terrible result for Euro unless he had a change of plan.

I did the right thing only to lose the lot on Epatante.............a day best forgotten

Just watched the post-race interviews. You get the impression that was no surprise.

Also an interesting line from Doyle, quoting Charlie Appleby: we're just getting the hang of this game now.

That might be bad news for everybody else!

THE QIPCO 2000 GUINEAS STAKES (CLASS 1) (Group 1) (British Champions Series)
Permission was given for both PERFECT POWER (IRE) and THE WIZARD OF EYE (IRE) to go early to post and for LIGHT INFANTRY (FR) to wear a red hood to post.

Leaving the stalls, ROYAL PATRONAGE (FR), unplaced, jumped right, taking BOUNDLESS OCEAN (IRE), unplaced, off its intended line, at the same time as PERFECT POWER (IRE),unplaced, jumped left, resulting in LUXEMBOURG (IRE), placed third, to be short for room, clip heels and lose its early position, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.

Approaching 1 furlong out, NATIVE TRAIL, placed second, lugged right-handed resulting in POINT LONSDALE (IRE), unplaced, to be steadied, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of NATIVE TRAIL.

Approximately 1 furlong out, PERFECT POWER (IRE), unplaced, was forced to switch off the heels of POINT LONSDALE (IRE), unplaced, causing TACARIB BAY, unplaced, CHECKANDCHALLENGE, unplaced and LUSAIL (IRE), placed sixth, all to be taken off their intended lines but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
