Chester May Meeting

In the Chester Cup I'll be having a go on Cleveland.

He's never been raced beyond 10f yet, as a 2yo, raced over 9f+. I think that often trainers run 2yo horses they consider to be possible future stayers over these distances.

Let's face it, he could be anything, couldn't he. It wouldn't surprise me, though, if they know that this distance will suit.

We all know the trainer's record on the track and having his first handicap run one in a valuable 2m 2f race stands out to me.

At 6/1 it's worth a look ew, surely.

Maybe it's just me but for some reason I'm struggling to enthuse about any of the Chester races this week.

I used to look forward to this meeting as a harbinger of good summer racing but so far this week it's been like a wet Tuesday evening at Shawfield.

Anyway, this lot are carrying the extra burden of my hopes today:

1.30 Red Mirage (10/1) & Repertoire (8/1)
2.05 Lord Protector (7/2) & Restorer (33/1)
3.15 The Grand Visit (22/1), Rajinsky (10/1) and Reshoun (33/1) with Solent Gateway (9/2) to cover.
3.45 Acklam Express (6/1)
4.55 Auriferous (5/1) & Mancini (28/1)

Not got involved too much this week as it's a kipp track but did place a Boosala/Cleveland ew double so not too chuffed with that result. I also have a Megallan/Luxembourg double in my ap book put on when All Aasy was still in the Huxley and the selection was 7/4 so it's not been the best of days.

Promising start. Here's hoping the rest of the afternoon goes along in similar vein.

You may not be a Ryan Moore fan, DO, but you have to admit he has ridden this course exceptionally well this week. That ride on Cleveland was superb.

Good call. I did him aswell.

I've bet Cleveland for the Chester Cup at 12/1 this evening. He's got one interesting profile off 97 after only 4 career runs. He'll have needed the last run but the form of that race looks hot. He's bred to be slow so no issue with the trip or going.

Well done Slim.nice price as well.
