Is this really what's behind the unrest?

He's got more money than God so what's left - more attention. He's just a mega rich version of Piers Morgan.
 
There is but billionaire types don't think like other people - it's part of the reason they have made so much money and part of the reason they are usually odious wankers.

I'm finding the current political discourse so depressing.

If it's not World War Three, it's lack of affordable housing, knife crime, and all the usual stuff.

Then we have the politics of race and religion. There's nothing new here of course. I do remember growing up as a young lad in London about 30 odd year ago with lots of friends from different backgrounds. I genuinely didn't have a clue about the politics then, it was just nice mixing and treating people based on the characters that were in front of me.

Being white myself of course I probably never had a clue about the nature of hardcore racism. Certainly not as a young lad anyway.

As you get older you get to see the ugly side to life.

Meanwhile, mainstream Brits with genuine concerns about levels of illegal and legal migration are being put in the same box as they thugs out on the streets.

Good on Ed Balls on the tele the other day for highlighting that if you deny there is a problem with the numbers, you encourage the far right to exploit the situation.

What have riots all over engerlund got to do with the initial horrific crime. Bugger all. Just an excuse to riot and let loose horrendous racism. Yesterday's news soon and they can get back in their bigoted boxes.
 
This time last year I was right of centre on social issues and left of centre re the economy -now a lot of people would consider me a full blown fascist.

Yes, but it's pretty representative of the mentality of these far right protestors. I've lost count of the number of taxi drivers, tradesmen and pub customers who spout exactly the same kind of ignorant stupidity.

It depresses me something awful.

Anti-immigration and anti-Muslim activists are real and that's what's behind the riots....other things may add fuel to the fire but nothing more nothing less

I really don't want you to take this personally but do you think you have any views that aren't in keeping with the zeitgeist.Back in the past you talked about your views on abortion -talk about those views in front of an average group of 20 year Old girls/women and they will rip you to shreds.

I understand this.

If you are someone who can see the grey areas in politics, and these people tend to reside in the centre, the far left will try and perceive you as someone of the far right, and the far right will perceive you as a 'leftie'.

One word. Tribalism.

We are in the age where you are supposed to be and wanted in either one camp or the other, binary politics.

The centre ground is now effectively a place of neutrality.
