The 2025 Racing League

đź’Ż% agree, Danny - the betting is like The Wild West/Johannesburg and so many horses are getting backed off the boards and often not delivering.

You've been lethal the last two weeks - Lir Speciale beaten a Rizla paper at Chepstow and Brosay tonight to deny me, TTF and Outsider had Auld Toon Loon and I had a bit myself at an average 18ish on the machine.

It's high octane stuff - roll on Newcastle next week!

I just think these racing league fixtures are my bag I love handicaps 6 good ones on the same card some extra place races its begging for an ew multi to be landed. I wouldn't say I've been lethal but im steadily finding my feet it'll take a bit of time but im sure I'll get back to something like I was a few years ago as said a time when I knew my arse from my elbow.

If im honest though I'm just enjoying the forum element of it at the minute its good to see as many decent contributors as we've got chipping in. I haven't seen s forum like this for a decade or so and in fairness despite the few bits of criticism you've faced you've breathed new life into this forum Ian and its great to see it coming to life again.

Between us at some point we should be able to have it right off !

Declarations for Newcastle AW have been made, Gosforth Park on Tapeta is often kind to me for various reasons and I might get more involved in this than at York earlier in the afternoon tbh.

I hope all you Knavesmire Ne'er-do-wells haven't forgotten where the REAL action is tomorrow night!

Lovely Tapeta, the wind blowing across Gosforth Park off the North Sea - I'm knee deep in wind speed direction forecasts and I can't wait!

Love York. Newcastle should have kept to Turf.

That said, I’ve made no effort whatsoever and come up with 5 relative outsiders for a speculative Lucky.

5.45 Zealandia 20/1
6.15 Flickering Hero 14/1
7.15 Dosman 12/1
8.15 Silent Film 28/1
8.45 The Oxo 40/1

Any chance the wind might be in the right direction and blow a few of these into the Winners Enclosure?

A friend of mine had a runner at Newcastle last year and said that when he entered the owners and trainers restaurant it was like setting foot in a f$%^ing miners club.
It was four deep at the bar as well!!!

While I like betting on Newcastle Tapeta and think there are edges to be had there sometimes, I have never visited Gosforth Park and tbh my desire to ever go up there isn't strong.

Michael Caine went up there in "Get Carter" and never came back and things didn't pan out too well for Tommy Lee Jones in "Stormy Monday" in that neck of the woods either - I'm staying put "dahn sarf," it's safer!

A couple for me.in the 715 I have miss nightfall in my alerts but will take it on with
Intrusively 9/1
Arctic thunder 845 15/2

both these horses had nowhere to go and when the gaps came both finished well at Newcastle 6f.

mr mistoffolees 645 8/1 should be thereabouts.

To get myself in the mood for this fixture, I've been watching "Get Carter" on permanent loop, while "Leafy" has been burying one of his "Beards" in Tapeta - tbh I'm not entirely clear how the latter assists with research, but "Leafy" seemed to be enjoying himself so I thought it best not to intervene.

These are the five beasts that currently pique my interest: Witch Hunter 7.15, Bright 7.45, Lion's House 7.45, Talis Evolvere 8.15, Arctic Thunder 8.45.

Id normally want to be having a good go at landing a multiple on these racing league event but Nwecastle AW is a complete bogey track for me and ive never been able to get my head around it. But a couple that have caught my eye without any real confidence behind them.

In the first Ian Williams Zealandia has won over course and distance here albeit 18 months ago off a mark of 88. Obviously been some poor performances since have seen him drop down to a mark of 72. In amongst those poor performance were a couple of decent performances on the all weather over 2miles off marks in the mid 80's. His latest 2 efforts have been just ordinary. Williams decides to try him in what is in effect first time blinkers, he has had them on before but over 9f a long time ago in deauville. The change of tack at a course he's won at when the money is a bit higher than usual at a best price of 25/1 it doesn't cost a lot to find out.

Recent discussions about the boat that is Ivatt and a half decent performance last time out wouldn't really shout that 9/2 is value but I cant help but think if ever a horse might need the above the shoulder whip action to cajole him in to action then he could be the one. Enter Luke Morris for a match made in heaven.

Enjoy your handicaps, Danny, a card full of them is my worst nightmare. Alex Bird was a friend of my dad’s and gave me one bit of advice when I started risking my pocket money some seventy years ago - “Don’t bet on handicaps”. I’d be much the richer if I’d listened

My wet dream is that all the Cheltenham Handicaps get put on the same day with 72 hours declarations. Armageddon!

I see Cotswold Cottage is entered at Southwell in a 0–80. She’s up 7lb for her Ffos Las romp and stepping up to 1m4f, which won’t pose any worries. It was the Somme at Windsor when she won over 11.5f there. I presume Nicola Currie isn’t on the rota, so Callum Shepherd takes the ride — for God knows what team Faye Bromley falls into.

She also had an engagement at Ffos Las in a far softer race, so this looks like operation win a big pot while you have the stone in hand.

Has the Racing League ever been this excitng?

That's the spirit!

I hope everyone is reading this!

All roads lead to Southwell - pronounced "South Well," as those who actually live there pronounce it, and not the media affectation "Suthell."

Can't wait and I'll be having a right butchers at the decs now they're in.

How very exciting.
Newcastle last week and this week the glories of Southwell.
Decisions,Decisions.
Do I tune in to watch the annoying ever smiling Alex Hammond and that Callum guy with the lisssssp?
Think I'll stick to Masterchef at least you know for certain the two presenters are 'wrong-uns'

Neither for me - tuning into a muted betting app at post time, watching the race in glorious silence and switching off as they pass the post is what makes it all tolerable for me.

Racing and betting are great - it's the people in racing and betting that ruin it.
