Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Impressive Badger Beer winner Al Dancer has been retired.

For me, that was a career best from the grey and I was looking forward to seeing where he went next.

But it's great that he's getting out relatively unscathed and can enjoy a long and happy retirement.
He was a proper horse -disappointed loads of times but had an incredible ability to bounce back.Great to see him go out on a winning note.

I've just had another look at that BB race won by Al Dancer (re Remastered's chances on Saturday).

Jeeezo, that was some performance. The vast majority of the furlongs were sub-15s and he even put in a couple of sub-14s ones.

For the majority of the race he took them along at speeds in excess of 30mph and even took it up to 33mph at one point early in the straight.

Far from slowing down, which would have been expected after such a gallop, he was still posting 32mph after the last and at the line.

I reckon he might well have won the King George on that kind of run but suspect the Gold Cup might have been beyond it.

Cracking performance for one of his age and history.

Very sad. A great shame his career was so blighted by injury and he never got to fulfill his potential

RIP

Sounds like a bad injury for Chianti Classico.

Was really impressed with his effort yesterday despite carrying 12 stone.

Slipped a tendon off around the hock area.

Makes me wonder if he will race again but hope he recovers fully.

Going by experience, unlikely - it’s not the most common injury but he’ll likely be ok to be an ornament or a hack for someone. You can operate, but it’s quite a long shot for it to stay repaired. My old bosses polo pony lived for a good few years happily though ( retired, but still able to live normally) it was just a bit dramatic when it slipped, but always was put backable - hopefully it will be the same for him.

Wasn't that the same injury that ended Teeton Mills career ? I was a big fan of Teeton amd very much becoming a fan of CC.

Yes, I think it was.
Didn’t it happen to Inglis Drever, too? Feel really sad about this. I’ve followed Kim Baileys career over the years, the highs, lows, ups and downs and it’s been good to see him now having such good horses again, especially as I like being able to pick out his runners with their distinctive nosebands. One of the first trainers I’m aware of doing a daily blog which I used to love reading. What a race Ch C ran under the circumstances.
