Now that Punchestown is over (thank the Lord) it's time surely to concentrate on the first Classics.

I want to be against the front two, actually three, in the 2000. Auguste Rodin I can accept as Derby favourite but with his pedigree for the 2000? Not sure. I thought the Doncaster race whatever it's called now was strange and for me he screams boat although Luxembourg was similar last year and he'd win this edition in all likelihood. So I can see him winning this given the stable's record in the race but at the odds I'll always want to have a go at something else. Little Big Bear is a flat no - might not stay, hasn't run since August. I'm of the belief looking at this race that the Dewhurst is the best form - over the winter I took a price about Nostrum but he's had a setback and so between Chaldean and Royal Scotsman at the odds and with the Greenham incident in mind I'm happy to side with the Cole horse at 10s. His pedigree gives him a chance of staying (the dam stayed a mile and the year younger half brother by Churchill does as well) and he was strong at the finish at Newmarket. Actually the one thing that had me questioning the horse was him winning the Richmond - no Guineas horses ever run in that but Paul Cole did run Generous at the Glorious meeting back in the day. Of the others I can't have a Varian horse for this but I am a bit wary of Silver Knott. I've liked this horse a lot since the Solario but I much prefer him for Epsom (backed at 20s.)

In the fillies race I like Remarquee and Meditate. The former impressed me in the Fred Darling and I thought the initial 8s was overs and the latter I'd just always prefer an O'Brien in this over a Weld and imo Tahiyra was a tad flattered in the Moyglare win as Meditate was sent for home way too early. I also like the way she finished in the Cheveley Park. Ryan was at her three out and she just gritted it out against speedier rivals. It's really hard to be against these hard as nails Ballydoyle fillies. I'm happy to dutch the selections against this field although I do concede a left field winner 25/1 type is more likely in the 1000 than the 2000.

I was very clever. I took 9/2 LBB last August for the 2kG. It's now 5/1.

That said, it arguably boasts the best form - it's top-rated on ORs, RPRs and Timeform - and I think there has to be the strong possibility that he'll be fine at a mile and might even improve for it, based on his dosage headline figures:

LITTLE BIG BEAR (IRE) b. C, 2020 {1-d} DP = 2-1-5-2-0 (10) DI = 1.22 CD = 0.30

The fact he's still in this late also offers some encouragement.

Obviously if Moore rides something else, it will be a big negative but we'll see.

Ryan's dilemma is interesting. He chose the questionable stayer (Ten Sovs) and the RP Trophy horse (Magna Grecia) won. I wonder if that factors in? If I was on LBB ante-post and he chose the other you can top up at a nice price.

I was looking through some specials one day and as I had put Auguste rodin in my alerts after its first run I did it at 40/1 for the 2000/derby.

Amazed as I am that LBB is still in training ( they retired Blackbeard instead) I see no reason why he cannot stay 1 mile.
Dam won over 10f and has bred winners up to 2 miles.
Arc winner All Along great grand dam with Miswaki and Bering filling the missing generations.
His only problem is I have 5 euro on which can stop a train !

You have to respect AOB's runners with his record.

Auguste Rodin is obviously very decent but there's a couply of question marks against his Donnie win.

He seemed to grind it out more than instantly quicken and he might just be vunreble to a speed merchant at this trip.

Sahkeer definitely fits the bill and looks a lot quicker of the mark than Auguste Rodin.

I don't think Little Big Bear would get a mile ina horse box can't have him at all.

Chaldean I would have considered but he may not be 100% for this after missing out on his intended run the other day.

Again you have to ask will Sakheer get the trip? I think he will but I'd be happer if Roger Varian's horses would win one.
They are all running into places without winning which is a worry.

However Sakheer at the price 7/1 he's worth the gamble..

1000 Guines according to the betting the one Tahiyra has to beat is Mediate.

Unless her wheels fell off during the winter break Tahiyra 5/2 only needs to be pointed in the right direction. She looks a really special filly.

Liked Remarquee on debut and again last time out. If the Weld filly comes over though!

Moore will be on the fav but I would love a spin on LBB.

It strikes me with Weld that this is far from the be all and end all with Tahiyra and much like Gosden's approach over here when he's had Guineas horses it's seen as almost a pipe opener for more important targets down the line.

It’s a shame Chaldean unshipped Frankie since some reckoned he didn’t seem to have grown much and it would have been interesting to see him in action. With the “maybe not far enough” and “maybe a bit too far” stamina questions over the two favourites it’s a pity there’s not a composite of the two - August’s Bear, maybe - who we could be certain about. I prefer to see a bit of extra stamina than less, so I’d be for Auguste Rodin of the two.

Elsewhere, I thought Noble Style won the Gimcrack very nicely despite running too keenly and running all over the place. He was going away at the end. He wasn’t seen out again after that (due to colic?) and development must be taken for granted.

So that’s my two(pennyworth). Haven’t thought about the 1000 since Commissioning was retired.

What happened to Statuette? Thought she was a lovely filly but hasn’t been seen for a while.

27 March

…..leading Qipco 1000 Guineas candidate Statuette is unlikely to feature at Newmarket.

The daughter of Justify won both her juvenile starts last term but has been off the track since landing a Curragh Group in June.

She had been towards the head of the market for the first fillies’ Classic on May 7, but O’Brien feels she is doubtful to make the line-up.

He said: “Statuette has had a little bit of a hold up and I don’t think she’s going to make the Guineas. We will just go gentle and see what happens.”…..

Indestructible for me

Always runs his race, on e.w at 20/1, most bookies going 4 places

I like Holloway Boy as well even though he could be a nutcase he looks to sort to be placed

As a very young lad from Holloway (not the Prison ! ) I was taken to Elizabeth's Coronation. So come on the Boy!

I know I put it on the longshot thread with the Derby in mind but haven't mentioned it for this one.

Silver Knott each-way in the 2000G is my saver for LBB.

Buick rides in preference to Noble Style which Timeform rated 119p - third top behind the AOB pair - so he's maybe progressed better over the winter.

(Then again, maybe they want Doyle to get a nice winner...)

Good luck, Outsider. Despite the doubters, I reckon he'll have the speed to win it too.

Looked to be a struggle to get home for some in the first at Newmarket. Not so good for doubtful stayers
