1000/2000 Guineas

In the Craven, the horses that ran to 98-100% got no sectional markup. The first two were over 101% and got markups. That would point to the final par being around 98/99% and would suggest Chaldean's 95/96% would be worth a mark-up for being fast run early. (Yet the 1000G was faster, it seems.)

I'm posting all this pretty much 'on the fly' without taking the time to sit down and pore over it all so I'm open to the idea of my being wrong.

I'll stand corrected DO. I just checked old spread sheets. Depending on the distance, around 100% is about right at Newmarket. I got 100.8% as par over 8f there.

You are right DO, no mark up means a par run. My memory is playing tricks. 100% would be a fair par for most distances at Newmarket, maybe 101% for 10f+

The downhill second last furlong cancels out the uphill last furlong.

The damage had been done by then and I cwnt see how it was going away.

Seriously, that was a million to get reversed. The head on just backs that up. I'm fully in the 2nd to win a rematch but she was clearly held at the line.

I've fannied about a bit with the times for Saturday's card, not made at all easy by the deteriorating conditions.

I'm coming up with a going allowance of 0.09spf for the race won by Probe (very good form, by the way) and 0.33spf for the race won by Vadream. The latter points to a rating of 122 for Chaldean, which I'm happier with than the other figures mentioned to date.

Re Blue Rose Cen winner of French 1000 Gns today.
Her dam Queen Blossom won on juvenile debut at Cork Sept 2015 the day Apache Gold had his final win.
I had met Fran Berry before racing and asked him which of his rides he fancied.
Enter The Red came the reply, so I coupled him with Apache and Laws Of Spin , a decent runner up at Listowel in Queen Blossom's race.
After QB's win , I said to Fran he had kept quiet about the filly.
" Didn't know myself " came the reply.
Delighted to see the Head tradition with fillies continue.

Jim Bolger can take a bow after breeding grand dam of French 2000 Gns winner Danelissima.
Jim got the best of her also; she sold for 470,000 in Dec 2004.
Resold in Dec 2010 for 220,000.
Dec 2014 sale made 68,000.
Dec 2017 sale sold for 1,500 .

Values can go down as well as up so buyer beware !

Irish Guineas this weekend.
Second , Third and Fourth from Newmarket race renew rivalry.
Age Of Kings, APOB's outsider of interest to me as he is out of Turret Rocks, a relative of the not so famous Tjukurrpa of Talking Horses past !
Tahiyra long odds on for Sunday; hope the ground not too quick for her though they are watering already.
Tattersalls Gold Cup could be the best race in years if the principles entered at 5 day stage all turn up.
Hope to be present both days; came and say hello .
Usually view from the top of the parade ring , near racecourse entrance.
