2 Mile Chasers 21/22

Something Altioresque about Shishkin’s performance, in that he doesn’t immediately quicken, but once he starts going through the gears, it’s clear there’s a monster of an engine there.

Great to see him come back in this sort of form.

I'll need to watch the race again but it looked to me like Shishkin, just as he got to the front, changed his legs and then went into that overdrive that he has. It was like a driver shifting down a gear to accelerate and indeed not unlike Altior.

And isn't it great seeing a superstar strut his stuff!

Did you say thank you to Grassy Nicky ?

The difference is he has beat nothing so far apart from a flattered Tingle Creek winner

Altior made mincmeat of Min and UDS which were in a different sphere to his oppo's.

It's very hard to access Shishkin as he doesn't have the magic about him that Sprinter had and he's yet to have a really stiff test.

He might have to wait until a certain stable companion:) comes up through the ranks to get a real horse to take on the way things are going.

Shishkin has had one race out of novice company. It is self-evident that he has not achieved what Altior managed, but that comparison was never made. It is the way that they finish their races which is similar (to me, and perhaps DO too) - not their respective levels of form achieved.

It’s getting tiresome having to point this sort of sh*it out to you, practically all very time I post. In future, I’d appreciate it if you read the content, and then read it again to make sure you understand what is being said……then reply.

Calm your knickers I was stating a fact not having a go at you. I just hope we don't have to go through all this **** again when Nicky decides not to run in the Clarence House in 3 weeks time.

WPM has already stated his will run in the hope he will scare Shishkin away that's bloody obvious but there's no need.

Last thing Shishkin needs is another hard race and you don't win like he just did without it taking alot out of a horse.

TBH I am surprised Nico was so hard on the horse in the closing stages he looked like he could have won easily hard held and the horse will have felt that.

Maybe he felt he was idling a bit in front but it never looked that way.

Be great if WPM's wins the Clarence house and sets up a real thriller at Cheltenham which is badly needed

First race out of novice company (as a novice), Altior beat the 167-rated 10-year-old Special Tiara 8L - "bounding clear after last".

First race out of novice company, Shishkin beat the 167-rated 7-year-old Greanateen 10L - "led and went clear, eased towards finish, impressive".

You need to start comparing these horses based on what they achieved at the same stage of their careers.

FWIW, I don't think Shishkin had a hard race at all. He is hard as nails based on every outing I've seen, and seems much more robust than you (and possibly the trainer) give him credit for.

I'm very-much looking forward to him taking on CPS at Cheltenham......and hoping Energumene goes to the Ryanair (for purely selfish reasons, as I have him in a multi at 12/1 with Jonbon at 33/1).

energumene's ryanair price on the machine likely tells you all you need to know. queen mum or nothing.

No way back for PTKO after that run at Fairyhouse -will surely be retired.

Thoughts on Elimay? Receiving weight and still couldn’t get there. Winner looked good mind.

Agree about PTKO. Swansong at Cheltenham still I reckon

PTKO wants 2 miles
Mount Ida 2m4f
Elimay 3m

PTKO will never win another race -at what point in todays race did you think she needed two miles. As a reigning Champion Chaser she should have been pulling double over the opposition.

Mount Ida jumps to her right. She got away with it in the Kim Muir because she was up against British handicappers - she won't get away with it again. I have topped up on Elimay who is actually 10/1 at Sky for the Mares Chase.

About a mile and a third/half in when she was pulling and wasn't given her head

Dues Zambella deserve respect? Think she has improved. Vienna Court also. Elimay not as good this year IMO

I can't have Zambella at Cheltenham. She fell in the race last year.

Vienna Court is a mile off. That race she won today was poor, Magic Saint is a stonewall two miler and hit the frame.

Imo Elimay is being trained to peak at the Festival. She was ok today.

I backed Zambella in the mares chase last March and she was creeping into it nicely when she fell.Apparently she have done a lot of work on her jumping and I was impressed with her last week.

Yes. Had she beaten beaten pointless last year, I'd accept it. There hasn't been a proper excuse for elimays aintree run, and Zambella beating Annie Mc was a good performance in any case. She looks a better stronger horse this year. I think Vienna Court has a way to go but I'd keep on the right side of her. I'd fear Mount Ida more than Elimay.

Its all about opinions -I think she is gonzo.

I wouldn't be rushing out to back her but I think today was the wrong distance and the reason it was the wrong distance was because HdB was testing the waters. I wouldn't be too impressed with Mount Ida either and didn't look like GE was too enthused after when he said something along the lines, "I guess it's onto the mare's chase now." Elimay would be the horse I'd watch but I have no clue what race exists for her. Are you looking at the handicap chase? An ew 100/1 shot at a mare placing in the Gold Cup? Haven't a clue.
