2 Mile Chasers 21/22

pleased for Mullins, pretty much the last big race he hadn't won?

hope Shishkin ok and hope Henderson doesn't just think the Ascot race is to blame, if he does we may only see Constitution Hill twice a year.......

Shishkin never went a yard and was having to be rousted along after one fence....something very amiss there.

In the words of our Slim.."Energumene is fucked" Paul Townsend could have stopped for a coffee with Patrick got back on and still won that:lol:

Let's hopee they find out what was bothering Shishkin and it's nothing too serious

Well done Reet and his other backers. I would be surprised if you was expecting that but just goes to show any horse can have a bad day and not run their race...

seems too bad of a run to be ground related. he was cooked after 10 strides and jumped dreadfully. something either mental or physically wrong there.

Must give Energumene credit where credit is due. He settled beautifully and came up the hill like a tiger.
May well have been his day even if Shishkin had run his race

Well done, Energumene backers. Very pleased for you regardless of Shishkin's and Chacun's misfortunes.

The brother has been on the phone, raging. He took Funambule Sivola ante-post at 20s and feels as though he's lost

Definitely ground related. I had horses that literally refused to go a yard on soft ground and then jumping, they make a mistake and confidence goes.

Aye, different ground and his main opponents fell away, but that was a totally opposite ride to the one he got at Ascot.

it's strange though cos he's won 4 races on ground described as soft, including his supreme so weren't all easy races where he could coast along in a small field

but it might just be the case and henderson certainly seemed to think so, going changed to heavy too so maybe it just crossed the line from what he'd want. i didn't even have major ground concerns for him pre race really so a bit surprising.

Yes, it looked as though he was trying the “go a bit easier and save a bit” route, rather than the “go faster” one. All became academic once Shiskin downed tools.

WM, post race: "We just felt that we had completely the wrong tactics at Ascot."
And a big 'eat my shorts' to those who pooh-poohed the idea after the Clarence House.

What to say?

Happy for Energumene, but Christ - I feel a bit robbed after Ascot. It seems almost inevitable in hindsight.

Will worry about the form of the race later*, but well done to Energumene backers.

*Has the ground ever been returned as “fu*cking mental”?

Yesterday reminded me of the types of days when Desert Orchid struggled to get the better of Yahoo and Synchronised winning the Gold Cup. The form has to be treated with a degree of caution.

Funambule was only rated 159 and Energumene has only beaten him eight lengths or so. That's well short of his best. Even allowing Funambule my own figure of 162 leaves the winner below his best.

It wasn't a great race to watch - unlike Tuesday's fare - and the rest of the day was worse.

The week might just be ruined now.

I enjoyed yesterday. A reminder that racing can get weird. Not too many surprises all the same.

If Shishkin is as ground dependent as Nicky says then he isn't the great I'd hoped for. Still not convinced that is the same Envoi that left Gordons. CPS wasn't travelling before the unseat.

Massive anticlimax. Very disappointed with Shishkin who evidently has a fairly narrow range of ground conditions to operate in.

Be interesting to see how he campaigns him - there’s still the lingering doubt that he hadn’t forgotten the hard battle with Energumene.
