2012 2-y-o season

Reckless Abandon won the Prix Robert Papin easily despite still wandering under pressure.

I think this is a serious horse and if they can straighten him out I expect him to win a G1 over 6f this year. Morny is his next target.

don't know if any of you saw El Manati win at Leicester tonight

visually..extremely impressive..broke juvenile track record winning by 9 lengths

not sure if the time is special without seeing the card completed...will guess it is as the ground isn't forecast firm

What time do I need to be shooting for if I want to get an early price about a horse in a 2yo maiden in the UK?

Nice effort by Olympic Glory in the Vintage Stakes yesterday.

Having had to be switched twice he had quite a lot to do with a furlong to go but showed an impressive turn of foot to get up in the last 50 metres.

Would depend how early and what price you want - better to wait until 3 or 4 firms are up than take first available (if you're doing the latter though you need a Bet365 account) and should be around the 9am mark depending on how many meetings that day, which track it is etc.

They're starting to look a poor bunch this season in general, molecomb run in the same time as a 73 handicapper, heavy metal winning that looks crap form.
I'd be avoiding these 2yr olds although the way david browns talking it sounds like he's got 2 or 3 frederick engels coming out!!

Last night at Lingfield, DUNDONNELL, who was a promising third on debut to Ghurair at Newmarket, started at 1/4 and won by 12 lengths, demolishing his field.

Probably not a great race but he was very impressive.

This afternoon at Cork, WEXFORD OPERA, a son of New Approach, is out to make out for a defeat on debut when he was very strongly fancied to win, he had to settle for second to Pedro The Great that day and has a strong opponent in the shape of Three Sea Captains who finished second to Grafelli on his debut.

i wonder sometimes if its just that too many races aren't true tests and this can make it look like we have no fast on the clock 2yo's

if you look at the fast 2yo's up to July last year its not a lot of races...and it would only have took 6 or 7 of them not to be truly run and you would have had very few fast clockings then either

alternatively you could be right...but fast times are dependant on races being run to show them

It's the only thing that keeps me interested in looking for new horses, looking for potential group horses and decent nursery entries, this year its beenm so bad i've got 2 or 3 potential group horses when i'd have at least a dozen. And as for the nurseries havn't got anything, well i did have one i put on the daily picks thread but it won a maiden at catterick on monday.Never known a season like it and even now its impossible to know which are the best runs and potentially best horses.I don't think you'll find out this season its been ruined.

The Group 3 Sweet Solera at Newmarket yesterday was won by Godolphin's CERTIFY confirming the good impression made on her debut at the same course in what looked a strong maiden.

Yesterday she still showed signs of greenness (slowly away and pulling) but strode away well inside the final furlong to beat the useful Sky Lantern a length.

Today's Phoenix Stakes doesn't look the strongest of runnings of this Group 1 event. The favourite is O'Briens CRISTOFORO COLOMBO, winner of his maiden at Navan before going to Ascot and finishing third to Dawn Approach in the Coventry, so far so good, but last time out at the Curragh in the Railway Stakes had to settle for second place behind Probably who re-opposes today. It's possible that the ground Soft to Heavy that day didn't suit and he will be happier on today's Good to Yielding. Of course there is the possibility that Probably will also appreciate the better ground, a comment that could also apply to Wexford Opera (stablemate of Dawn Approach) who didn't live up to the hype surrounding him on debut when having to settle for second behind Pedro The Great (who also runs in this) on soft ground at Leopardstown.

A tricky one to sort out.

He was travelling really well and Joseph seemed very confident.

i don't think Joseph would have won, he wasn't going to get an opening and even if he did, it would have been asking too much to make up so much ground at the Curragh yesterday.

Interesting maiden coming up at Leopardstown.

Hall Of Mirrors even money favourite on his debut third to Dibyani at the Curragh last month but I will be keeping an eye on ALPINIST, a newcomer by NEW APPROACH out of a very good female line.

The above maiden was won in impressive fashion by GALILEO ROCK, a half-brother to Saddler's Rock and some other useful stayers. Should have no trouble getting the Derby distance.

Hall Of Mirrors threw his chance away by hanging right throughout the final furlong. Alpinist was never travelling well but plugged on for fourth.

BATTLE OF MARENGO was an impressive winner at Gowran yesterday.

Making his second appearance he completely ran away from his field to win by 11 lengths.

This colt by Galileo out of Anna Karenina has entries in the 2000 Guineas and Derby.

Yep, he did OK, Chronic.

I was taken with the performance of Mark Johnston's STEELER in second.

Looked outpaced and beaten a couple of furlongs out but in true 'Braveheart' fashion battled on well. Looks as if he needs 10 furlongs now.

Really taken by how Dundonnell travelled through the Acomb. Still looked a shade green in front as well.

Somewhat fitting that his sire, First Defence, was trained by Bobby Frankel as well.
