2018 Gold Cuppin'

Will someone explain to me how this market works. Total Recall 20/1 best price for the Gold Cup 14's in places.... I don't understand.

Apart from the NRNB concessions, etc, there's also the place offerings. The short prices will more likely be with guarantees and/or more places, the longer odds with the bastert bookies.

But a 14/1-20/1 differential isn't much different from a 7/1-10/1 differential on a big Saturday handicap.

Wasn't actually asking about the difference in the prices (not that i made that very clear) merely how a horse that has achieved what he has is so short in the betting ? It absolutley bemuses me. A horse that narrowly beat Whisper receiving a lot of weight is now shorter than Whisper was after his run in it and is half the price of a horse who's finished 1L behind Might Bite in a KG ?

Utter madness !

Might Bite was 'idling' in the KG. Went through the race much the superior animal.

He 'may' need a pit stop in the Gold Cup mind.

He is the improver of the season, had a perfect trial in a hurdle which will sharpen him and boost his confidence without the rigours of a hard race.
WPM had told owner at Christmas he was well handicapped off 156 so could be 160 plus now, has missed another tough race on heavy ground .
Given the successes of Rekindling and Winter having left a retired trainer TR would be following that trend also.
It would be the story of the 2018 Festival.
(That owner Lar Byrne offered me a Festival ticket while waiting outside last year also blinkers my view of course!!)

I don't buy this idling talk its strange how he only idles at the end of the race after pulling away from them on the front end for the rest of the straight.

Whatever way you look at it winning a handicap by a neck off 147 does certainly not justify such a short price for a Gold Cup.

The idea I think was to test stamina - Cue Card ran Frodon and Top Notch into the dust I suspect that Waiting Patiently is just one hell of a horse.

It was a Grade 1 they were at level weights.

I wonder if they will skip the GC and go for the Ryanair with Cue Card.

The trip is not a given for me.

Hopefully Duke will put in a good round of jumping.

Disagree.

It didn’t fall into Top Notch’s lap, and it is very dangerous to under-estimate the winner.

Where else in a race would you expect a horse to idle exactly?

I tend to agree - the issue with Waiting Patiently is the festival ground - Hughes suggested that soft heavy in places was as dry as he wants it !

Harry Cobden having visited the yard warned us about mid week about writing Cue Card off saying he was in fantastic form so taking this foirm lightly may be foolish.

Waiting Patiently is probably the a fastest improving chaser in training. They left Frodon 15 lengths and in his current form takes some doing.

Even if my little buddy Top Notch had run his best race he may well have struggled to beat ahorse who was ridden once again to beat what was in front of him

One shouldn't lose sight of that fact and working out just how good he actually is is not easy

I think it was a hell of a race. Pace kills and showed up a few I've been really keen on top notch for a while and he just couldn't live with that. Coney Island who has also been a joke of a price for a Gold Cup on the back of a graduation chase where he beat utter crap has too been found out.

Waiting patiently looked the absolute nuts there although I'd somewhat agree with Dessie on it and you'd wonder id he's soft ground dependant but I can't argue with that form that was a proper race ! Loved it even though it was costly.

Great to see Cue Card back on top of his game love the horse and to be fair I was saying they should retire him which hopefully they will at the end of the season but great performance.
