I had a teacher friend who taught a couple of the girls from Bananarama and had said at the time that they would never achieve anything with their lives

Well I never. Yup, wrong on that, wasn't I but have never seen any. That's burst my bubble, really. I just hate adverts so much that I am always looking for someone who refuses..
Not a musician, I know, but Ben Elton proudly proclaims that he's never done, nor would he ever do an advert. Good on him I say but it's probably just me.
 
It has to be Bowie above all others. Man Who Sold the World 1970, Hunky Dory 1971, Ziggy Stardust 1972.

Other bands that come to mind who may well have been forgotten are The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Remember them? Joe Walsh anyone? Solo albums before he joined the Eagles: The Smoker You Drink The Player you Get 1973, Barnstorm 1972. The classic album New Boots and Panties by Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Captain Beefheart's band after he left them and they carried on, with the name Mallard.

I know what you mean, but I guess it is easy money for them. If I were rich and famous (which I’m not and have no desire to be), I’d only advertise what I really believed in. I have a particular bee in my bonnet about someone using their reputation to extol the virtues of equity release - particularly in the earlier days of the product.

I fully intend using equity release to pay for my retirement (assuming I can get a decent interest rate). I've no kids to leave the house to so I might as well get some use out of it's value myself.

I assume it is a much safer product these days, but not well regulated initially and lots of horror stories from that time. I’m sure it suits some people in more situations now, but for me, I think I’d consider downsizing first. If in in doubt, I’d check with Money Saving Expert! He knows more than me.

At the age of 90, I doubt there'd many world tours on the agenda. Wow. 90 and still touring: absolutely fantastic. Go on girl.

She was married to Ewan McColl for years and is a great name in folk music. I'm so glad you highlighted her tour, Al because I've seen that she's due to play the John Peel Centre, Stowmarket in June and that's really good news. I'd love to see her play, along with her son, Neil.

Make sure it's not the final leg of her tour, in case it really is farewell.

Clem Burke is amazing. Very underrated imo. He also sets himself as a role model for young musicians, keeps himself supremely fit. My grandson is a drummer and I’ve told him to model himself on Clem ( and not to do drum solos because they’re soooo boring,

Just make sure you book sooner rather than later, there was a big demand for tickets at my local venue
