A Gambling Sabatical

If you are betting bad e/w and suspected of working iu the trade you could easily be restricted without being an ouerall winner.

If you are consistently betting bad EW, it's unlikely you won't be an overall winner though.

Yes but if your accounts were restricted for betting bad e/w races it is not the same as being an outside of the box thinker that your post implied.

I am giving up gmabling on jumps races. A complete lottery where the best horse i.e Tartak/The Tother One/Somersby never wins.

I'd even argue that bad EW is thinking outside the box, the majority of punters given the choice, would rather back the odds on shot in the race than something EW against it!

I should say I don't just play bad EW, it probably only makes up about 20% of my horse punting, if that but I will always have a second look at a bad EW race and have a larger than usual EW bet if I fancy one. Roderic O'Connor in the Dewhurst recently is a prime example, I probably wouldn't have touched the animal had it been 4/1 the field with 10 runners. The make up of the race prompted me to play.

I think that 20% of your betting being bad e/w would get your account at least monitored if not restricted. Your basically swimming in the same swamp as arbers. If you were a bit cleverer you could have kept a lot of the accounts open.

True but I'd probably have won a lower percentage. Ultimately, we all want to win money from bookmakers, it's just how quickly you want to win X amount really.

If you go the hard and fast method, you'd play every bad EW race and every arb in BAGS dogs racing. I tend to use certain accounts for certain bets, for example, I know Stan James and Ladbrokes will lay a reasonable horse bet so keep the business "clean" with those firms.

I will call you on that-I can guarantee you that my selections on this forum have shown a level stakes profit over the last 12 months.

After doing a quick tally and I reckon since August 2009 I have started 9 threads recommending bets,13 selections 8 of them successful, level stakes profit of roughly 13.5 points.

Admire ec's honesty here. I suppose if you live in your anorak and never go out then you have to be humble :)

I always think a break is a good idea after a bad run and certain times of year are not good really

cheeky bleeder :)

live in an anorak? - i might sleep in it..but live in it?

I could never give up betting.

Not because I'm a helpless addict, but because it makes me cooler than your average schmoe. Non-punters think you are a combination of marginally shifty and boldly reckless - and therefore a swashbuckler for the modern age.

Gambling makes me inherently cooler than 99% of the people I meet.

Hmmn............make that 100%.

(NB: Except perhaps for Delargy - a Milk Tray Man with a microphone :D)

:lol::lol: I sincerely hope this degenerates into a testosterone-fuelled argy-bargy!

I never thought of gamblers as cool - presumably none of you have met the real 'Tracksuit Dave'? (Shadow Leader will know who I mean, I think.) Pretty much all of those I can point out at a track are geeks of the first, second, and third order.

We were discussing him in the office the other day Kri - came to the conclusion it couldn't be him as he was posting on Betfair all afternoon (when the real Tracksuit Dave was at the races).

I hope he has more than one pair of those Addidas three stripe's btw.
