Aintree

Was glad to see Ahoy Senor put his best foot forward today after he made me look an utter mug in the Feltham. Its still baffles me that he jumps right at his fences and somehow is better at Newbury and Aintree than he was at Kempton. Obviously BMG was far from his best today but it sure looks like there will be a decent bunch of staying chasers next term to look forward to. Good Times.

AS is happier going left on a flat track. Probably got a little niggling issue which is why he jumps right. Also Kempton is a funny course...lots of horses don’t jump well there. Almost like they come up to the fences too quickly and it alters their balance.

Got to do DANS LE VENT 145 tomorrow. 11/1 7 places

Please Isobel dont leave it too late.3m the best distance.

Gordon Elliot has been knocking on the door at Aintree without any luck but Three Stripe Life should put that to rights today.

Walking On Air missed the Ballymore for this despite looking like a world beater at Newbury

I'm not so sure he's as good as he looked in what was a very ordinary novice.

If Davy Russell can keep in touch and be within a few lengths of the leaders turning for home
the long straight is exactly what this horse needs as he does tend to take some amount of stoking up to get going.

Three Stripe Life 4star**** Bet 0/30 BFE

Flooring Porter looks nailed on to take the Liverpool Hurdle

He has the clear beating of Thyme Hill and Champ who won the Sefton round here looks the only danger.

Champ is also very unpredicatable and when things go his way he can beat just about anything.

So while I am getting stuck in I intend to cover my back which could end up being costly
or give me a really big win.

The occasion today and the huge wide open spaces make Flooring Porter opposable at the price - I can see him not taking to it. Champ has won at the track and travelled like the best horse in the race in the Stayers before not quite getting home. Thyme Hill won this last year but missed the Stayers enroute and Hobbs actually said after Cheltenham that he might miss Aintree as he's best fresh. I think 4/1 Champ is pretty good value.

Today is a different day and a different test I agree. However, you really think Champ travelled like the best horse in the Stayers?

Apart from Klassical Dream yes, his stamina just gave out towards the end. I can't forget that run at Ascot first time out where he did Thyme Hill comfortably. In a less than competitive race I like like his price.

Flooring Porter ran no race at Punchestown last year and that was ascribed (in my mind at least) to his exertions at Cheltenham so I’m not sure why we should see something different this year. It’s obviously possible but he makes little appeal at 7/4.

The next three in the betting had hard races at Cheltenham so don’t appeal much either.

Sire du Berlais is tempting each way. He ran at Cheltenham too but didn’t seem to be asked many questions after being badly hampered by the ill-fated faller

And the winner!

I don't know why you think this race is less competitive. The horse they all have to compete with is Flooring Porter made all at Cheltenham and it wouldn't have mattered to him if there were 20 other horses in the race as he never saw another rival.

Considering he is likely to go off in front again then, this race is every bit as competitive to those who re-oppose him as he the 2nd and 4th all clash again.

It's not competitive in that only two or at the most three horses have a realistic chance. Contrast that with the Bowl or the Sefton where cases could be made for half a dozen at least.

I hope you and anyone else who backed Sire last month were on today!

I had him written out last night then watched him drift so cancelled him after that.
I need to ditch the oddschecker.

At least I know the National won't be another hard luck story for me.

I only really fancy Eclair Surf, School Boy Hours and Deise Aba. No excuses.

Yes I was on today. Got the Pertemps money back handsomely. I was a bit worried by the drift myself but fortunately didn’t let it put me off (for a change)

A good winner earlier has left me well ahead on the day

To put some icing on the cake I am going for Alan Kings Ernest Gray

He was green as grass at Warwick and I would have preferred it if he had a bit more experiance
but if he loses today he's still a nice horse it will just be a temporary loan.

It looks like Bet365 is down at the moment....trying to work out my ew bets no doubt. I (and sorry as I know this is massive after timing  ) have actually managed the winner of the last race on each day, two at 12-1 and one today at 28-1....a rare occurrence!

For all I had a very disappointing National financially, I ended the meeting well ahead. Big bets on Clan Des Obeaux with the BOG and Party Business, which I had at 12/1, along with Ahoy Senor and a lot of longshots placed, made it a good three days overall.

Funnily enough so did I. Lookaway that wont the Bumper for Neil King yesterday won the Point immediately preceding Jeff's point at Kildorerry, so I was fully aware of the potential value of his form, so it was a cross between a form and heart bet.

Just done totting up my National finances and losses weren't anywhere near as bad as I'd thought, thanks to having my heaviest bets on FOTR ew at 25/1 and only small amounts on the longer shots.

Can't say I enjoyed the race as much as usual, being unable to attend the brother's party so missing out on the buzz of that.

As someone else said, I thought the commentary and camera work were generally disappointing.
