Ante-Post Punting Plans/Propositions Thread.

Some great philosophical debates happening on here today, with words I've never heard of, but I'm pleased to learn in time for 2025.

Anyway, back to the racing, will this meeting go ahead tomorrow? I hope so.

Any contributions on the action? Please do.

About to have a look through as the nephew is going and thinks his kindly aunt will supply him with winners as usual

Oh let's have your analysis, Jin.

The only one I've backed so far is Deep Cave in the handicap hurdle.

I've just taken a chance really, he could and should improve a bit from the last run, though whether that'll be enough I don't know.

Get well soon by the way. Happy New Year for when it arrives.

Key questions in the other races, does Gemirande need to improve from the last win to win again tomorrow? Was the official handicapper reaction about right?
Colonel Harry? Good horse still, or questions to answer?

This Irish horse Lisnamult, is he capable of a big run again back at this track?

Thanks in advance.

I'm on midnight river at 12/1,previous winner of the race.yard r banging in the winner's, and is edging down the weights. I've also doubled it with marbs deep cave.

Ive texted him the following:
Race 1
Only three runners and one I like, Kalif du Berlais is odds on

Race 2
Think Pierrot Jaguen is interesting in this

Race 3
Tricky race as all have a fair chance
Probably plump for either Cloudy Glen or Bowtogreatness

Race 4
Big fan of Gemirande while I wouldn’t put you off Springwell Bay
Both like the course

Race 5
What a Johnny obv for name (Nephew's girlfriends father is called Johnny) but I think he’s ok. Twig (at a good ew price) always seems to outrun his odds and might be worth a little on

Race 6
I thought Golden Ace would be a short fav. She should be as she’s v decent. She’s my selection

Race 7
If you’re still going, this is a bumper (flat race!)
Either Gonome or Our Boy Stan

Outside Cheltenham have had a little on Cleatus Pootlaw at Fairyhouse 3pm as I always thought he'd make a nice chaser and he slipped last time rather than fell.

Didn't post this but I have double figures about Colonel Harry tomorrow. I'm doing well this jumps season but not on the handicaps so tempers confidence. Springwell Bay is feared and I might use him as cover but I think the handicapper has got hold of Gemirande now.

Followed you with the Colonel for my patent. Golden Ace is in there too.

I've got both of the above in my Ten To Follow, so with a bit of luck, they both win, catapulting me to near top of the leader board, for the month of January, anyway. :)

Mine ran like he needed the run fitness wise.

It's New Years Day 2025, I was hoping he'd be fully fit.

Finished fifth in the end. Probably pocket talk from me.

Drifted late to 15/2 which was very disconcerting. I wasn't impressed by what I saw in the paddock.

Maybe others weren't either, which caused the drift.

Nevermind.

Think the rain has caught a few out today. Golden Ace came there nicely and just struggled to get home. Wouldn't give up on her.
Gemirande too didn't look like he enjoyed the ground either, a point made by Venetia beforehand.
Not the most inspiring days racing for me and my Irish hunch was overturned too. Winner had been off for a long time (Champ Kiely) and won well - he could be useful.

There's a really good card at Windsor next Friday. I could be wrong but I'm thinking it's the winter festival thing Lingfield had the last couple of years that they've moved because Lingers is shite for the jumps?

Anyway, there are some bets to be had:

Secret Squirrel in the handicap hurdle - this horse was running a stormer in a similar event at Ascot the Sat before Xmas where he shared a very strong pace with two others. He fell at the last but would have been fourth and he lasted a lot longer in the race than his two rivals who both faded, big pace collapse. He's 10s.

Panic Attack in the mares handicap chase. Big tracker horse for me when she was with Pipe a couple of years back. She ran a cracker over 2m4 when behind Stage Star and Datsalrightgino at Cheltenham two months before the former won at the Festival. She ran poorly in one race subsequently but small field so who cares and was then off the track last year before moving to Skelton. She's had two runs over an inadequate two miles over hurdles and this over 2m4 again will really suit. She's well handicapped now and seems to retain ability judged on her hurdle efforts.

Pleased to see both my fancies declared for Windsor tomorrow and I'm in a nice position with Panic Attack in particular who I got at 8s. I will top up at around 7/2 and will use the Cromwell mare as protection. I'm gonna stick her in a double with Trelawne who is in the Peter Marsh on Saturday. I re-watched his last two races and he hated Ascot last time and did well to hit the frame...I want to be against RP in this renewal of 166 - 11/4 seems skinny in that context. Trelawne has Haydock form and I kind of want to get him in a rollover as the stamina is a slight question mark and I can get some IR lays in at shorter prices if I can be ahead of the market.

I'm also on Hititi in the last at Windsor tomorrow. He sort of ran into one last time at Exeter and this is a lower grade race....he's topweight which is gonna be ok at Windsor with that configuration.

Any thoughts on the grade 2 at Windsor on Sunday?

Djelo is an interesting one. He could yet be a Ryanair horse, I see I'm not alone in thinking that. Although that could be a hot renewal.

What's Gary Moore playing at, entering Le Patron?

It's quite hard to believe he only has 7lbs to find with Djelo on official ratings.

Cheltenham is just not his track. He looked awkward from the get-go last time.

I reckon he's a lot better than that and Windsor might suit.

Whether he can mix it up with these though, even on a going day, is another matter altogether.

The softer the better for him.

I think it's priced about right to be honest. Djelo should go well but Protektorat will be more comfortable going this way round and Pic D'orhy should be competitive. I don't really see a bet.

Asked for a hot tip on Matt&Paddy’s Unbridled -
- Harry Skelton came up with Panic Attack at Windsor, he also talked about Protectorate and expects him to come in as well. fwiw.
