Atkins Diet

  Just 2 and a half stone more to go before I get down to an "acceptable" weight for my height. The people who come up with these charts must all be very wimpy looking!

Forget "acceptable" weight PDJ, we all know what weight we feel happiest at and god only knows who works out these charts! I am very lucky to have nervous energy and despite having an office bound job, I try and walk wherever and whenever I can. Having a dog definitely helps!! I hate the gym so prefer to do something that fits in with me and my lifestyle. I even sat my Mum quite far from the Tote this evening at Windsor races, so she had further to walk than normal as she insists on having a bet in every race... :P She hadn't realised until after the last race when she was a little more tired than usual. B)

Yeah, I used to try that sort of ruse with mine, too, Kathy, but she cottoned on fast and told me I'd just have to wait for the Will.

Jon, as if you'd be so heartless!!!!  I prefer the more direct approach anyway, I've been trying in vain to get someone to agree to bump off my old man before he retires as his life insurance pays something like an extra 100k or if he's still working!! :shy:

Besides, the BMi charts aren't absolute - there is no way they could be. They don't take into account a person's build, for starters. Is there any way that a 6ft fit rugby player that weighs 17 or 18 stone is obese??? Like hell he is!! Also, as someone else said on here - muscle weighs far more than fat which pretty much makes a nonsense of the tables. I was 7st 10lbs wet through when I started working in racing - within a few months my weight went up to 8st 7lbs yet I got thinner; all the weight I gained was through muscle gain. Another example - a 5' 2" female who is stick thin & of light build is going to weigh next to nothing, probably around the 8st mark. Take a 5'2" female who is curvy (believe me, curves are heavy!!!!) and she will weigh far more without being obese, yet according to the BMi tables she would be obese.

That reminds me of a joke, but the humour would be lost in the writing. It's verbal humour.

In red dwarf Lister used to call 'curves' "sticky out bits".

How's it all going Maurice and Krizon? Are your floppy (droppy) bits starting to tighten up abit now? :)

I forgot to take my Gregories into the cludge with me this morning. I think I was still 12-2 but at least my Chums are starting to feel looser around the waist and it won't be long before I can pull the belt in another notch.

 Could you translate for me please Maurice?

I believe he means that he omitted to take with him his viewing aids when he visited the little boys room for the purposes of ascertaining the extent of his mass (this morning).

This thread inspired me to go and buy some new clothes last week (I hadn't been clothes shopping since before Christmas), I went to a hairdressers for the first time in about 10 years (I normally use a mobile hairdresser) , and I have ordered a teeth whitening kit - just to see if it works plus Barney gets 4 walks a day instead of his normal 2 just to up my fitness level - and his!.

I was amazed at the hairdressers that they actually offer glasses of chilled chardonnay after 12 midday. Absolute bliss. I will definitely be going back again. It was just so nice to be pampered for a change.

I am seriously considering a weekend visit (with the other half) to a health farm in the next few weeks too to ensure our current health kick is not short lived.

Gregories = Gregory Pecks = specs

Cludge is Scottish slang for toilet.

I have never heard of a cludge before Maurice. They do say you learn something new everyday.

How's it all hanging Maurice and Krizon? Are we looking at any more notches in on the belts yet?

Um... erm... no. :shy: I have eaten, in the interim, a couple of large wedges of the most delicious Genoa cake, most of a lemon sponge cake, and some chocolate. I also got in my annual supply of biltong, and unfortunately consumed rather a lot (it's salt-cured, so I've OD'd on sodium). In spite of the rigorous salad regime and starting the day with a bowl of horse feed (well, it looks like it and smells like it), I've not progressed beyond a couple of pounds off. I have to confess, I cannot tell a lie (well, I CAN, but I'm not going to dissemble about this), I have taken a back step.

Right, I'll pull myself together now and try to be much gooder! Forgive me, Kathy, for I have sinned. And not even the weeniest drop of alcohol, either! :(

 Krizon, you are forgiven..... this once! I am afraid I will not be able to be so gentle on you next time around. Now remember, this is for the good of your long term health too so how about a cake-free couple of weeks as a very small punishment. :)

12-0.

I'm not doing anything mental and I haven't been denying myself too much. I've only had two cans of Stella this weekend but substituted the rest of the usual weekend 'allowance' (the other four) for a few generous G&Ts - less pressure on the stomach. I've been serving myself smaller portions of food and when the rest of the family had chippy fish & chips the other evening I had salmon fillet and a very small portion of oven chips.

I'm eating more at breakfast than normal but less at lunchtime and I've taken the dog for longer walks than normal, but not by too much.

The big test comes this week. I'm off to Spain tomorrow and tend to over-indulge so if I can come back without putting ay weight on it will be a big plus since I can normally shift 5-7lbs within a fortnight of returning from hols.

A 5lb loss in about as many weeks is good going Maurice.
Have a great holiday! You can have a nice forum weigh in on your return! B)

("I hope he puts on 15lbs," she grumbled sulkily, putting the remaining half of the lemon sponge out for the gulls.)

What bugs me is that I never used to be a cake bandit until the last few years, always able to say 'no' (though rarely to another steak, if offered). I've fallen into much naughtier ways than even I'd reckoned on! Fair enough, Kathy, I shall apply myself properly now. I DID start SO well, too, and really felt the difference for eating healthily and dumping the junk. Okay, back on track we go... :shy:
