Can I please have my license fee back, where do they find these absolute twats of presenters?
Exits stage left, muttering FFS, FFS, bring back the cat, hang draw and quarter the buggers, keel haul 'em or make 'em walk the plank!

I like 'Mythbusters' - have you watched those two zany Americans prove so many myths wrong? Hilarious, but also rigorously undertaken.

I think you missed hanging in chains, pressing to death, or the ducking stool, Walsy!
 
Walsy - long gone are the days when TV - almost any TV - expected their viewers to be able to watch a 60 minute programme with no breaks, no arty-farty camera work and no poncy piped muzak.

Now we have to have four five minute commercial breaks per hour, with a resume of the previous 10 minutes of actual television, because of course we all oviously now have the attention span of goldfish. Or gnats. Well, the US population obviously has, as most of the programmes we all watch emanate from there one way or another.
 
It is amazing what attention spans we had even in the 1970s . I came across an episode of Upstairs Downstairs by chance on one of the outer ITV channels the other day and there was one scene that lasted a good ten minutes- nowadays it would be sixty seconds !
 
Longer scenes = fewer set ups = shorter production times = cheaper. They used to shoot episodes of UD straight through in a couple of hours.

Interesting , perhaps the BBC could revert to proper scripts, acting and directing in order to save cash.:lol:
 
Can just one single non-fiction show be aired without accompanying zillion-decibel music? Watching Bargain Hunt this morning, and we're taken by Tim Wonnacott to some stately pile full of Chippendale furniture. Natch, what do we get? The theme tune from 'The Full Monty' ffs. Over and over, we have to suffer inane giant flashing signals to our subconscious, indicating the peurility of 'wit' of the producers.

And the absurdity of outdoors programmes where what we mostly see is Nicholas Crane and Julia Bradbury from every possible angle, intoning breathlessly about a 'stunning' view (is there any other?) from some outcrop, in perfect sunlit profile. But where is that stunning view? Oh! There it is - oops! There it goes! A nanosecond shot, and off they stomp, to the ear-splitting strains of 'On the Road Again' (geddit?) and more endless shots of their trousers, boots, retreating backsides and wafting inanities about how wonderful all these little-explored places are. No, they're not, Nicholas and Julia, because judging by the well-trodden paths and roads you're marching on, several thousand found them before you did.
