Bank or Tank?

Wrong on so many levels. I don't even watch races any more. if you understand markets you can cream this game.
I can identify with this.
Horses in races are just pixels on a TV screen nowadays to me.
I don't know why I still subscribe to SKY since I rarely can be arsed to look at ATR.
My "watching" these days is exclusively at the Betfair API screen, -- at the movements in the markets and scalping that little bit here n' there.
It was all so different once upon a time when I loved this game ........... when I was gambling. Nowadays I couldn't give a flying fvck which horse wins a race, 's long as I am on the winning side of the trade.

Anyway, in response to the thread header, my little bank is locked and loaded. Most of it lodged in the exchanges to Lay off those lovely arbs, bonus's and freebies that always crop up come Cheltenham (and about which I usually put up a thread on here concerning same.).
A percentage of the bank will also -- as always -- be put aside to at exploit the sharbs in the shops.

I would find another toy, that sounds so lifeless. Where's the passion and thrill in that? Play the stock market instead, you're a trader like slim.

I got close to being like this for a while.

I only bet at weekends as my proper job is too busy during the week, so when racing was becoming just another way of making money it took away some of the fun. And everyone needs a bit of fun

I just bet win and e/w singles these days, usually at level stakes. I will up them for Cheltenham though.

I've only had two AP bets. Briar Hill to win any race and Silviniaco Conti to win the Gold Cup.

I'll keep punting as usual in the lead up and have never really thought about specifically building a tank for the festival.

People tend to get a bit highbrow when they think they know it all. Is it not so?

They get less emotional. It's just another race etc. it's certainly not a superiority complex. I try to point things out to people on here that I think can help their punting which exactly what other members did for me on here when I was young, keen and green.

I've not had a decent punt since December. And that will see me through 5 days of hell at Cheltenham.

On saying that i think that Chavoy is a cracking ew for the Eider at 25/1

You're very probably right. The flame that once was has now died to a flicker.
Horses have become just a medium of trading for me now, and even that is becoming a chore because of the negative impact of all those €0.10 "bots" jumping ahead of you and below.

Actually, I find I've been inexorably moving over to playing financial instruments more and more.
There's nothing to compare with the trading "rush" like the one to be got on the Bitcoin and other crypto-currency exchanges at the present. Volatility on those beats anything you've ever seen ! :ninja:

Good Luck Marble, bide your time as there's still terrific value to be had in some of the races -even the Graded with the top 3 getting all the attention.I couldn't be more confident this year.Good Luck .If there's one thing I know. It's that I know everything I need to know.

Cheers, I'll look closer the time.

I'll have to distance myself from this. I'm not a trader/arber. I'm not afraid to lose money, I just want my money in good. I never lock in profits, I just bet ricks or advantageous positions. I'm planning on having one result winning me €100k this summer which may seem unrealistic to some on here. That's all I think about everyday, **** Cheltenham.

It can be done.

I can visit 6 bookmaker shops of one particular chain in 75 mins on foot from my apartment. For sports betting on markets that aren't volatile this is a glorious way to punt. They wouldn't lay me a bean online but will lay me multis to win the lot in their shops.

It's a bit like people I know who chose to study English at college because they enjoyed reading and found it killed their enjoyment of literature for some time afterwards.

Very true but I'm amazed at how little regard there is for the great spectacle out there

I'll be at kempton this afternoon on what is a glorious day. The betting is just part of it

Have to say though that actually going racing makes all the difference.

Also from the betting side. I recall far more about races and horses from "being there" and the jumps circuit in the south is easy for me to follow. The best edge you can have is sticking close to a narrow area of the sport and I certainly can't complain about way things are going for me.

I'm with barracuda too. If it was just cash would far rather play the stock market.

Agree there Clive, the day out, the craic so to speak, the atmosphere at the Festival is electric and that is before you have a bet.
