Bin Laden

When you think Americans can't get any more stupid
US General Jack Keane told the BBC's Today programme that it was "appropriate" that Bin Laden was killed by US forces. "I'm glad we're bringing a body back [to the US] as to opposed to him walking back," he said.
As the news spread, crowds gathered outside the gates of the White House in Washington DC, singing the national anthem and cheering.

Im delighted that he is dead. I think the americans are entitled to enjoy this as much as they like.

so hes been living in comfort in a Pakistan city all this time. Clearly they have been complicit in sheltering him.

The idea that we have been giving aid to this country is revolting. If what seems to be the case is true then that should be stopped immediately and the west should impose the hardest economic sanctions possible to bring the country to its knees.

what is worse - allegedly sheltering Bin Laden, or starting (in alliance with the US) an illegal war which has been responsible for many more deaths than Bin Laden and his horrible network ever have been?

Lets not buy into the media positioning of good and bad guys. There are bad and worse guys, no good.

Its because of bin Laden that we ended up in Afganistan. Hes responsible. If we hadnt gone in he could have developed any amount of resources to further his aim of genocide of all non believers

The deaths in Iraq are largely civil war. the difference is that we did not go into iraq with the intention of wiping out "non believers"

It is a huge difference.

Pakistan have been endorsing this monster and supporting him. That tells us about their world view

They can have it if they want it

Supposedly buried at sea (already) - why would they do that?

What Country would take him ? A pilgrimage destination for every basket case in the World ! I assume pictures will be published to prove it's not the biggest porky ever told.

Bin Laden's death is nothing more than more propaganda for the US. This probably makes it more likely there will be an attack soon, not less likely.

Take this:
Col Richard Kemp, the former commander of British forces in Afghanistan, tells BBC News: "This is not just symbolic - this is a major setback to al-Qaeda. It shows that the US is strong and al-Qaeda is weak.

This is embarassing rhetoric. The propaganda is similar to 1984.

The photos part I would be waiting for. It just seems strange to do it so quickly.

As I understand it - at sea so there's no actual burial site for followers to create a shrine to him and the speed of it is quite common in Islamic (?) tradition. I believe funerals usually take place within 24 hours wherever possible.

Whats wrong with that? Thats what all presidents say.

So bin laden should have been allowed to live on laughing in the faces of the west?

Al quaeda is weaker than it was. A number of their leaders have been killed and the arab world has been turning their back on them. Everyone (bar a few Guardian writers) must welcome that

I didn't say that - they are clearly right to target and kill him. But, and this is my point, lets leave this whole goodies and baddies out of it, and all the propaganda from the US (& britain) is sickening. Bin Laden was a dispicable person, no doubt about it, and everything he stood for the same. But, so was George Bush, so was Blair, and it would be interesting to compare who was responsible for more innocent lives lost of the trio.

So Bush and Blairs intentions were genocide then?

You may as well state that churchill or FDR were worse because more were killed in ww2 by the allies than AQ today

Where did I say that?!

I am only saying what I said, nothing more.

I must have missed Saddam attacking Britain (if we are comparing Iraq war to WW2)..

Lets all not forget that it was the Americans who 'trained' him in the first place..the 'worm that turned'. Perhaps they've learned their lesson on that score. Maybe when we properly develop some sort of alternative to oil all of this will cease to be. However, I do rejoice in this man's capture and death; it will never take away the horror that was 9/11 but perhaps it will ease in a very small way some of the pain that so many are still feeling.

I have no problem with him getting a bullet in the head and doubt there was a surrender option.Looking at the archive footage of Russians in Afghanistan you have to admit that took some balls to fight them as opposed to spending his 80 million inheritance.
I suppose the problem now is tryin to prevent him becoming a martyr but the fact that he was living in a villa and not a cave will be milked by the Americans and rightly so.
I agree with Hamms point about good and evil.
