Bird Flu

Merlin,mate.

150000,at least die of flu like symptoms every year in Europe.

Why have you never had a panic before?

Over the last 50 years there have been three pandemics with 100s of thousands dying. Why did you never panic?

If we are going to get another pandemic, there is nothing that we or the Government can do about it,at least until a few people catch it and pass it along. Then,a vaccine can be manufactured in around 6 months which may or may not work.

750000 thusand deaths is a wildly exaggerated figure,a climb down has been seen in the last few hours. It is now suggested that around 50000 may die,or,20000 may die.

The average deaths from flu like symptoms in the uk are running at 12500 app.
This means that the figure can be as high as 20000 and as little as 7500.

I am afraid that our politicians and government sponsored medics are covering their rectums.

Its a bit of damp squib in my opinion.

Regarding AIDS, it's probable that the disease is older than generally recognised.

My father was posted to South Africa in 1942 where all the men were warned by their commander not to go with the upcountry women (even though it was only 3d a time) because a number of them had a disease which he went on to describe - the symptoms were basically the same as AIDS today.

DEREK I am agreeing with you the figure on a normal year in the U/K was quoted as being 10 K from ordinary Flue...... the only thing that I have said is that I will not buy poultry after I have used what I have in my freezer thats not what I would deem as a panic mate or I may just buy British poultry............or just abstain and eat beef or pork etc etc...............

VEN yes mate I would agree with your statment it was just possible????

We had BSE in the beef as your all very aware of, caused now they say! by feeding human beings parts to cattle, (imported from India that’s the last cause I seen on the box)…..

There's a world of difference between your wording, Merlin, and the quote from the BBC site. The world of difference is conveyed in the use of 'could' in the latter article.

D/O your splitting hairs now mate don't try and change things to something they are not! I have substantiated my statement by producing the evidence that's part of a post I made over 3 weeks ago on another thread... regards the BSE possible cause as per the BBC site...... I never wrote it mate only quoted it.............. :o :P

I REST MY CASE........... :o

Merlin, there is no feckin' evidence! It is - as is quite clearly stated in the piece you've copied and pasted - a controversial theory.

Theories are not facts. There is a theory that we are all descended from this bloke and this bird who got stitched up by a boa constrictor.

Merlin, there is no need for me to split hairs. You're doing a wonderful job of that yourself. You have quoted, as Brian points out, from the BBC site a theory for which there is no evidence. You then claim they're saying it happened. I'm simply reinforcing the obviousness that one does not follow the other.

I'd love to know in what way am I trying to
change things to something they are not!

My significant other has just informed me that until further notice we are not eating chicken. I'd show her, if only I knew how to cook.

My brother-in-law, educated to PHD level and part time cattle farmer, poisoned 2 semi-pet pigeons that were living in his barn in a bid to stave off the virus.

Gobshite, I would say, rather than bastard. It was done out of genuine, if massively misplaced, concern. I can see your point of view though.

I can’t believe its not contagious if you eat a bird with this flue.... I myself would reckon you have a greater or more than evens chance of catching it, if eating it, it will be off my menu that's for sure***................

I can see others doing the same as me! And a glut of poultry going on the market and then being binned as they can’t sell it.................
***************************************************************

I posted this above yesterday I see that countries
( ITALY as per news programme not written by me, either again!!!)
have had a 40% drop in poultry sales ...
I as stated above.... I will bet my bollix that this will apply to most other countries too in a matter of days.................... :o

***maybe that should read eating and preparing (an infected source) when you need to handle it to prepare it etc etc........

Bar the bull,
as a medic of 47 years experience i feel that i mus concur with your thoughts.

BTB why do you say its stupid to talk about a possible pandemic that can/may happen?I think with the quotes of the people involved in this investigation i.e. the news cuttings its rather an ongoing thing what one would term as ongoing NEWS the fact that you have not got the ability in which to subscribe to the said topic/subject speaks volumes don’t it.....................

These are as stated backed up by people who supposedly are in the know? .......its their theories being put foreword(not mine only brouht to members attention by me copying and pasting ) but it does not mean that I or you are going to believe these theories I.E. BSE HIV……………and the others are as stated current news I.E. RE the topics heading being BIRD FLUE................. :o

I cant really see why without contributing you have a GROUSE!!! your not compelled to read this or any other threads, as you have been told before!!!!.............

Bloody hell, I agree with Derek!! BTB - I'm with you too.

Ffs, comics like the Daily Mail should be held to account for creating widespread panic with their nonsense. The front page headline they ran yesterday was nothing short of digusting - as well as false speculation & distortion (nay, fabrication) of the facts.

It beggars belief that there are idiots out there who not only believe the tripe they print, but who are intending to stop eating poultry and believe that they are dredging lakes in an attempt to combat an outbreak of avian flu. It's utter madness - is the UK turning into the USA, where the idiots believe anything & everything they hear?

That's OK, Diver. You can show her by eating it raw.
