My local Morrisons is running a campaign at the moment where if you spend £30 or more, they give you a free chicken.

Well, this thread, like so many others turned into an absolute farce but the question I asked is whether we should be petrified by bird flu finding its way into this country. I thought it was a sensible question?

It looks it very nearly found it's way here (although the bird was held in quarantine when discovered), and I will be closely following developments like the possible ban of exotic birds into this country. People panicking? Nah, just people making sure that bird flu stays away from our shores - which of course probably could never happen.

Bird flu is definitely no nearer to these shores than when I first put this thread up... or is it?

Did I hear of it in Germany on the news today ?

Are the Gov setting up plans to ringfence any known infection with a one mile radius ?

What implications will that have on the poor hunting fraternity ? more job losses for them.

They are already in the UK for testing.

They were found on the Island of RUGEN a place surrounded by water in the far north of Germany. :)

You may think my priorities are stuffed but I'm more worried about the Independent's article claiming that the Gov are more than willing to ban sports events in the event of an outbreak in the UK.

Not only would we probably lose the Festival and Aintree, but Chelsea are doing great things in the Premiership! Nooooo!!!!!
Sounds like The Independent may be right Zozzy.

Chelsea are still doing great things in the Premiership, long may that continue until the end of the season. :)

For those who are concerned about catching H5N1 here is a useful tip from Guillaume Hounsouve at the Benin agriculture ministry: try, if possible, to avoid biting the heads off live chickens.

The ministry has issued an urgent all-points advisory to at-risk groups following the disease's arrival in neighbouring Nigeria, but is "particularly concerned at the dangers for fetishists and followers of the voodoo cult who kill animals with their teeth," Mr Hounsouve says. Handy hint or what?
