Champions Weekend

He has wiped out Free Eagle who had every chance at that stage. To say the winner was easily the best horse on the day is a bit far fetched.

Hmm. Smullen only stopped riding for about a stride and he was back whipping FE within two strides. GH was already in front at the time - if you watch the slow-mo replay you see that GH mainly hit FE's head/neck rather than the full-on "broadside" ATR referred to. FE's stride pattern was barely compromised. He had plenty of time to get back at GH if he was good enough, and the winner cost himself just as much ground by drifting as he did the Weld horse. And FE had already come under firm pressure even to start getting upsides before the incident occurred. So yes, it's fair to say GH was the best horse on the day.

The moral of this story is clear:

If you want to win and ensure you keep the race, then just make sure you side-swipe any other horses in contention so that they can't finish second. (well..except in Illinois, France and anywhere that isn't sunny)

It wasn't done on purpose. You cannot have thrown him out because like the Secret Gesture farce you would have ended up with the third best horse in the race claiming the prize.

The fact remains FE was denied a chance to win the race when holding every chance. Makes no difference whether it was unintentional or not. The fact remains FE was wiped out and lost all momentum. You don't recover from that at this level.
I actually think he may well just have won. But clear cut, no chance.

I have an absolute certainty in the next week but as you bastards wouldn't even let me buy you a drink today you can all go **** yourselves.

I wore brown dress shoes FFS. **** my life.

I saw you mingling with the working classes from the top level. I considered going to greet you. I decided against it.

Art and Ed were in good form.

Bump up your insurance. There will be a lad throwing himself in front of you car any morning now.

Free Eagle got upsides but I thought Golden Horn was pulling away again when he took him out.

Whichever way you dress it up, it should be clear by now that Golden Horn isn't the superstar so many made him. Neither Jack Hobbs; applying the same logic.

5:25 Miss Elizabeth 5/1 very big
best form , light weight, good trainer,
draw could be ok
a typical case of the bigger the field the bigger the certantie

should run very well in big field full of slow horses

Free Eagle would certainly have been second, and possibly would have won, without the interference.

What does the decision to maintain the placings say about our current rules? I accept that the interference was not in any way deliberate or the result of negligence, but imagine if it was, what would the stewards have done then? According to the logic of the rules the result would still have been unchanged, which would be grotesque.

Agree 100%.

He's been horribly out of form all season but Hot Streak isn't a 16/1 shot on this ground.

The question I'm mulling over is whether to load up on the 20s on Herald The Dawn before 4.20 today or is Emotionless too much of a good thing?

If any of you lot are at the track, some pics of The Fly, The Flyer and Hardly Useless would be most welcome.

Didn't look great for Brown Panther there; really hope he's okay.

ETA: feck it, fatally injured :(

Great racing both days.
Great to see the hurdling/chasing heroes in such good fettle.
I gave An Capall the racing/political story of the 20th century so I hope he makes good use of it some day.
Golden Horn to make all the running and fend off all rivals despite all and even allowing for the incident should not be under rated; that was a cracking race by any standards.
Pity Legatissimo was not let at him is all I say; she is different gravy , two short heads away from 5 Group 1 wins and more to come.
Sole Power a star to win on easy enough ground today, a triumph for the power of Roasted Flax seeds.
magical crowds and great to meet Art and Colm again; pity I missed you Slim.

It might be of interest to some of you, for future reference at least, that in among all the other deals available there is a return bus service to the Curragh next weekend from various points around Dublin.

There will be plenty of good racing to enjoy, I hope the weather plays its part.

Just looking at met eireann forecast now the East Coast looks like getting the best of the weather but rain fall is unpredictable as of yet.
set fair for a great weekend of racing ; watch this space as we may have tickets for sat and Sunday especially due to racecourse reciprocal arrangements; will keep you posted.
