Cheltenham 2016

Colin Tizzard said yesterday on ATR that Thistlecrack will be aimed at the 2017 Gold Cup. What price would you want with that piece of info?

Considering the current quality in that division, the fact the horse hasn't jumped a fence & there's 400 days for him to pick up an injury I'd want double that.

Annie Power entered for Punch on Wednesday at the same time saying it's looking increasingly likely she heads straight to the festival as time is running out to get a run into her

I've also seen him say (on Trials Day) that if Thistlecrack wins the World Hurdle, he'll stay over hurdles so don't think anything's written in stone.

"It looks like she'll probably go straight to Cheltenham. I think time would be running out to get a run into her. That's not 100 per cent confirmed, but I would imagine she'll go straight to Cheltenham.
"The World Hurdle is a very tough race and to go there on your first run of the season would be very difficult. I think if you're going there on your first run of the season you take the easier option, which would be the mares' race.
"That would look the logical way to do things. Annie is 100 per cent. Ruby [Walsh] rode her work and was very happy with her. "

How can time be running out to get a run into her if 1) She is 100% 2) is qualified to run in the race 3) is entered in it and 4) would not have a hard race ?

erm... just run in it then.

I'm not sure how More of That compared as a winner compared to Cole Harden, but I suspect there wasn't much in it, whereas Thistlecrack will eat Cole Harden for breakfast.

He wants to run in the mares because he doesn't think she'll win the World Hurdle because, just as most of us do she couldn't beat Thistlecrack. The mares would be a pick up and carry job for her assuming she's genuinely is fit, well and as good as ever.

Assuming she doesn't run beforehand he also avoids the risk of the bounce. I presume he'll than plan a campaign like Quevega and her run at Punchestown and perhaps over in France. I doubt he's risk Aintree given the two Festivals are so close together this year.

Yes I reckon Thistlecrack has a bit to do with it. Annie for the Mares and VVM for the Ryanair is how I'm thinking he'll go now.

Personally I want her to go Mares because I've a few accas rolling into her - assuming the previous 2/3 have come in.

My thoughts exactly Lee.

More of That was a very good winner of the Stayers and I would not be at all sure Thistlecrack would beat him if he turned up in the form he was in 2014 . Academic of course as very unlikely he will running anywhere but the RSA.

Willlie Mullins quoted in his RP column today that Annie Power is an intended runner at Punchestown .

DG you might keep us informed on weather conditions from early March please.
Looking at accuweather Cheltenham seems to have gotten a serious amount of rain since trials day with up to 70mm more forecast for the next four weeks.
All of this may not be falling at the course but it seems much wetter than the last few years.
Sterling work by you all along ; many thanks .

Yes, thanks for all the Cheltenham updates, DG

Edgt - I don't think we can rely on any weather report beyond 5 days, tbh. If we do, we end up in 'Daily Express' territory.
