Cheltenham Festival Trials Day

It's a warm, bright and sunny day here in South Yorkshire so there are grounds for weekend optimism as far as Donny is concerned as well. Quite a rapid thaw taking place. There's a long way to go, mind.

Forecasr for Donny is a balmy 5C & rain for Saturday.:)
Cracking card, here and Cheltenham, and either/both would be guaranteed for Sunday; let's hope the BHA and CH4 agree.

Great to see the effort being made to save the card.If it was due to be run in Ireland there would be no hesitation about running it any day the following week.It is an incredibly important meeting in relation to the rest of the jumps season and every effort should be made to save it.

isn't there some sort of big thaw forecast for next week?..someone said it were going to get to 15 degrees in the day..should keep their options open for Monday or Tuesday imo

Worst case scenario if the meeting had to be run midweek look for an overall sponsor and don't charge for admission.

This is how it looked about an hour ago

They are quite optimistic here as long as the forecast for the next few days proves to be right. -7 forecast tonight but temperature slowly rising towards the weekend, would have thought Sunday would be OK if not Saturday.

Tweet from Cheltenham Racecourse

We had 2 cm of snow overnight, which is currently being removed from the frost covers by the groundstaff and work continues to make the rest of the site safe. There is now no further snow of any significance in the forecast and it is due to remain dry until Friday night.

On that basis we remain hopeful that Saturday will be able to go ahead as planned, but the option of racing on Sunday remains, should that prove necessary. There will be an official course inspection on Friday morning.

Gates will now open at 10.30am on raceday, rather than 11am.

We’ll be keeping everyone up to date as soon as there is any further news.

Horse goes well fresh - not a negative for me.

Agree with that, won the Hennessey not having raced since March, season before that won at the same meeting once again not having raced since March .

Last season he ran at Ascot mid Feb before the Festival so they have that option again if they felt they needed to.

Current problem is just the "numbers" following a trachea wash.

All snow off the covers, looking good for Saturday although chance of short spell of snow late tomorrow

Should racing be postponed until Sunday, Jan 27 - C4 will show races between 1 - 3 pm,
