Dante Meeting.

It's been a good day, which makes a change for this meeting, so have taken the 12/1 Busy Street in the last to top it off.

Alan Swinbank has trained the winner of this twice in the last 5 years, both times with a 4yo near the top of the weights who was having his second start of the season. The later (Libran last year) had been to Beverley previously as has Busy Street.

Nice lightly raced profile too.

I walked over the course from the 10f pole and then again just past the winning line and it was still quite firm underfoot despite the slight rainfall.
As we walked over to the course from where the Holiday Inn is and where the jockeys park we noticed the ground in the middle of the course (not actually part of the course).
It's a strange surface as it's like cracked clay and I belive the course is also on some kind of clay base. When they do get a fair bit of rain it gets very tacky and very testing.
I'll try take a picture tomorrow to highlight it and then upload it here. Rather than it just getting muddy like other tracks it goes all weird and you can see where they have been hit by the floods.

A case of so close but no cigar today for me, ew bets resulting in places at 25-1 twice in the 2nd race (Mythmaker, Zanetto), 20-1 (Suedois) and 33-1 (Medici Banchiere). If the Burke horse had runn in a straight line I might have had a 33-1 winner rather than a 2nd.
Thinking of backing Journey, Midterm and Easton Angel tomorrow in singles, doubles and a treble.

I stuck Midtern up as a stonking bet at even when he won on his return but that I wouldn't be as brash as to suggest he's anything like a certainty today.

The form Frankie is in he'll have plenty supporters and it's huge pointer he's chosen to ride the well bred Wings of Desire over Foundation who himself will have his supporters.

I normally dismiss most collateral form but it's hard to ignore that William Haggas has chosen to step up Victoria Bond from a poor Ripon Maden straight into Group company.

The common denominator here is Algometer who actually gave Midterm something to think about at Sandown before going down by 1 1/2 lengths.

On his first ever visit to a racecourse Victoria Bond ran Algometer to 3/4 length.

Much depends on the rate of improvement Algometer has made from way back then but it's my guess that Victory Bond will have improved way beyond what he has,

Haggas obviously thinks he has or he wouldn't be there and at worst I expect he'll shake up Midterm and at best beat him.

Victory Bond 12/1 ew.

Midterm could be anything, but I remain convinced Wings Of Desire is the real deal and, having already backed him for the Derby, consider him a solid win and place bet today.
Journey should take the drop in trip in his stride and looks a good thing, but it seems the world and his wife already know it.

Yeah, I can't say my confidence is high re Foundation but based on that he's done on the track 13/2 is value.

I'm more bullish about Express Himself. I have to hope he doesn't get too far behind on this course but his form from Haydock is rock solid with Erik the Red running well yesterday and the winner that day not far behind So Beloved last weekend. I got some 11s and 10s upon declaration and he's an each way bet given how he's ridden normally.

Nothing jumping out at me today like Nayel did yesterday. First race is an interesting one with plenty of front runners. Toofi will give you a run for your money but off top weight I can't see him lasting out. Along with Desert Law and Red Baron who are drawn well for front runners.

I like Normal Equilibrium, good draw for a prominent racer but you are relying on a decent break. Cowell is good with the sprinters, interesting Jockey Booking as De Sousa not been up before. Low in the weights too which always helps in these handicaps, had to win one of the last two races to get in this and after winning the first was given a very easy ride I feel next time out. 1pt each way.

However with all these front runners it could set it up nicely for a fast finisher hence the price on Royal Birth. I also like Meadway for Bryan Smart and Paul Mulrennan who know how to win at this course. The negative for Meadway is the drawn, he may just have too much to do if doesn't get away and whilst he finishes races strongly I don't think has the same turn of foot as Royal Birth. Might just get up though 0.5 pt each way.

3.45 is another big handicap, One Word More for Tim Easterby has to be an option given his form albeit I do think weighted to best. Could place. I really like Third Time Lucky though for Richard Fahey. By Clodevil (Danehill) out of Speckled Hen which on the face of it doesn't look spectacular however Clodevil has sired a good number of decent handicappers. This horse won on debut and I think should go fresh today. Fahey has had a few debutant winners this year so it is clear he can get them ready to go first time. His horses didn't run well yesterday though which is a concern. I will go 1 pt each way.

Good luck all

Meadway is the one I've gone for.

I like Thesme in the first race, have backed it each way, will prove better for having had a run prior to today.

2:10 Lucky Beggar

He could be an extremely well handicapped horse, especially with the jockey's 5lb claim. He had a few of these behind in October and is actually better off at the weights today and significantly so in some cases. The trainer has sent out 4 winners from his last 5 runners (1/1 here yesterday) and this horse has ran well here in the past. Being up with the pace is a good thing here.

I've slight reservations about them reaching for the hood again as he's clearly got his issues and he doesn't win very often but off a claim adjusted mark of 84 he hasn't had a better opportunity for a long time. 14/1 taken.

What is Fitzgerald on about? "Brando has to go down as an unlucky loser". He missed the break then ran on. Duke of Firenze hosed up, he was easing down half a furlong out.

I've had a small interest on Beautiful Romance but she's weak in the market.
I was on to small stakes too, as I remember her run at Ascot last season which was eyecatching. I reckoned she needed it softer but she's a classy type with a big future.
Muntazah ew in the the Dante.

Yeah James Doyle said he thinks she's pretty ground versatile but it was a concern definitely, hence the small stakes. I've followed Reet with Wings Of Desire but the market drift suggests a leg has fallen off.

Happy days :)

Get in there Frankie!:)

what a season he is having, Guineas and now possibly another Derby winner as well

bound to improve for the extra 2f

Good man Reet see you in the Maldives right after Derby Day.........your paying:lol:

Third time lucky one to back next time out. Pulled really hard all the way with Hanagan unable to come out from behind the horse in front and got swamped. and then didn't have any space. Expect it to come on from that massively. Gutted

This ran well. 1st, 3rd, & 4th today have entries in the Epsom Dash.
Doctor Sardonicus is on my tracker after finishing off well in fifth, but no entry at Epsom next month.
