Eurovision

Serbia win and Russia place!!!!
The most obvious case for disciplinary action and abuse against the nature of this site I've seen. I propose BM is sanctioned?

The bit that amused me was Wogan's pathetic appeal at the end to the BBC. Please keep bank rollling this fiasco and give me a contract etc "It's only fun, you've got to enjoy it, it gets better every year (I mean the production and the event etc)".

Right I'm going to launch into a Paul Weller/ Jam frenzy and remind myself whose really the best. There's only one soverign country in Europe who can consistently take on the UK for decent music, and that's all we need to know :P

Malta?

After watching "Ireland's Nazis" tonight on the History Channel, just wondering if Israel (or even Croatia) gave Ireland a nice fat score? I'd have thought that some memories, just a little more recent than Ollie parliament-booting around the Emerald Isle, would affect even this 'light-hearted entertainment'.

Nobody gave Ireland a big fat score, if I remember correctly they came last

Ah yes, the obvious political voting of Eurovision rears it's head again.

Hang on, ALBANIA?!?!

Amen to democracy, and political voting.

Based on political voting, the winner will come from the Eastern Block.
I loved it when Terry Wogan described it as 'The Balkan Friendship Society'
Yes The Balkan Friendship Society :luv: . Well constructed words by Wogan, and true in every aspect.

Easily explained. The person conducting the count obviously relayed Spain as the instruction but since it rhymes with Ukraine the talking head mis-heard it.

I think they ought to call it the Eastern European Dance Contest from now on, but what never fails to surprise me is that all these neighbours hate each other politically in a lot of instances, and in the case of the Balkans they've just been at war. Yet the people seem prepared to vote for their neighbour with alacrity. Are we witnessing something of a populuse v's political dis-connect.

An open bus top parade for scrooch or whatever they're called me thinkz

MP demands Eurovision vote change

The UK's Scooch did not go down well with voters
The Eurovision Song Contest voting system needs to be changed because it is "harmful to the relationship between the peoples of Europe", an MP has said.
Countries voted for their neighbours rather than the best songs, Liberal Democrat MP Richard Younger-Ross said.

And the BBC should insist on voting changes or withdraw from the contest all together, he added.

Serbia won Saturday's contest, while the UK was second from bottom, only receiving votes from Ireland and Malta.

Mr Younger-Ross said the present structure was a "joke", adding that votes were based "largely on narrow nationalistic grounds".

Richard Younger-Ross said the voting system was a "joke"
He has tabled a Commons early day motion, which has been backed by fellow Liberal Democrat Colin Breed plus Labour MPs John Robertson and David Drew.

Perhaps a system whereby the United Kingdom is automatically awarded at least 5 points by every nation would appease Mr Younger-Ross (on the basis that we're British for God's sake - how dare Johnny Foreigner not vote for us! :angy: ).

He might also wish to join the Conservative Party.

Following on from government ministers telling us how to vote on big Brother, it's good to see an opposition MP getting stuck into another important issue.

If it wasn't for "block voting", we wouldn't have received any votes at all.

Plus our guaranteed 12 points from Malta !!!  Got to love this voting !!!
The best George Cross ever awarded and they never fell under Nazi control. They gives us 12 every year. Denmark used to give us a lot too but they've been airbrushed . Ireland, despite everything we've done to them historically still gives us the odd few.

I suggest we send the Millwall skinhead ensemble next year

"We are Britain, we are Britain
No one likes us
We don't care
We are Britain, we are Britain
We are Britain, from Baghdad"

Was it my imagination, did the Israeli's try voting for America

I had a pm from Kri over the weekend that as good as suggested I went over next year too.....

P'raps I should get my hair cut and consider it!!

My fav part of the evening was when Russia came on to give their results and in answer to the "Good Evening Russia" "Good Evening (wherever it was - ive forgotten already!!)" Terry Wogan said "Good Evening Mrs Putin".......
