It's something I've never fathomed myself, dj.

Early-mid summer you get fillies rated 70-odd or 80-odd running in Listed races, only to emerge with figures in the 100s and they end up stuck in no-man's-mand. OK, so they got their black type but I know if I thought I had one with that kind of handicap advantage I'd be looking to pick up two or three valuable handicaps, landing some decent bets in the process, before moving into Listed or Group company.

Yes and some keep on handicapping when they're good enough to get black type which is frustrating when you have the sister in foal :mad:
 
While the market for bloodstock is driven by the catalog page, which obviously hypes black type, then you will always find owners of fillies chasing black type in order to add value to her when she retires. It's the owners prerogative, after all. As Sheikh points out, it's extremely frustrating if you have the dam or a sibling of a potential black type performer and they are never even entered up to try for one!
