Favourite Race

Jesus Christ. Thanks for posting that. Forgotten all about that race. Flagship Uberalles is such a hero of a horse, so genuine. Pity the owners were such cunts but his colours and his style if racing are hard to forget.

2 miler chasers are the greatest IMO.

Here's another one for you - someone has finally uploaded the full video of the 2002 Champion Chase.

Never have I seen a more exhausted jockey after a two mile race, certainly earned his fee!

The greatest race that ever was for me was Crisp being overhauled by Red Rum.

And for different reasons, Kauto's second Gold Cup.

There with friends, some of whom are posters here, singing (humour me, we'd probably had about 15 pint of Guiness):-

Three King George's, two Gold Cups, doo dah, doo dah
Three King George's, two Gold Cups, doo dah, doo dah, day.
And his Tingle Creeks, and his Tingle Creeks
Three King George's, two Gold Cups, doo dah, doo dah, day.

You had to be there! :)

The greatest race that ever was for me was Crisp being overhauled by Red Rum.

That reminds me, L'Escargot's National, making him the first horse since Golden Miller to win both a Gold Cup and a National, was a bit special at the time.

The 2003 William hill handicap chase will live long in the memory. Youllneverwalkalone moved on to the tail of leaders and everyone at Cheltenham witnessed a real spine tingling moment, all the McManus flags were lofted and swaying in time and everybody joined in to sing the song of his namesake. I still get goose bumps now.

Alleged's second Arc leaving them for dust early in the straight having been off nearly all year with a virus yet MOVB brought him back two weeks before to break the track record in the Prix Prince d'Orange - £5 win was a lot of money to an 11 year old me !

Bonanza Boy winning the Racing Post Chase at Kempton would be a good watch for the younger forum members

His welsh national wasn't too shabby either I don't think, bit far back for me to remember all that clearly but there's a reason it's stuck in my mind and at the time I was very anti pipe/scu so it wasn't that....

What about Run for Free in the Scottish National? Pretty sure he had top weight and then fluffed the start and gave the field 20 lengths plus.
He proceeded to reel them in one by one and won quite comfortably if I remember rightly.

2007 Northumberland National. An amazing ride from Graham Lee on Delray Beach to win the 4m chase with a 5yo mare!.

Wicheta lineman at Cheltenham. That AP ride

Those Paul Carberry wins on Harchibald, Moonbeg Dude, Solwhit, Frenchmans Creek, etc etc !

The Kings Lake/To Agori Mou trilogy.1981 esp Sussex Stakes when Ballydoyle ran Last Fandango as pacemaker ridden by B Rouse, second jockey to Guy Harwood !

Known Fact v Kris QEII 1980

Birds Nest win in Bula Hurdle 1979.

Bobsline v Noddys Ryde 1984 Arkle (when men were men!)

Affirmed v Alydar trilogy Triple Crown races 1978

Two for Martin (Irish Stamp)

1 The Mighty Mac in 4/5 yo maiden Kildorrery p2p 1980

2 Ask Tom v Sunybay 4 yo maiden Dromahane p2p.

(3 All wins by The Black Watch in mid late 1970s p2ps )

Golden Cygnet Supreme

Sea The Stars in the Eclipse, with brilliant commentary by Aussie Jim.
RIP was so unlucky to bump in to him that day.

And Minstrella and Forest Flower's near dead heat as juveniles in the Phoenix Park 1500.

Good point, they were three very good fillies.

Minstrella next won the Moyglare and then faced Forest Flower for the third time that seaon in the Cheveley Park. Forest Flower was first past the post and kept the race on the day but Minstrella won it on appeal after being deliberately bumped by her rival. Minstrella didn't train on but FF won the Irish 1000 on her seasonal debut before getting ill and having only one more start.

Meanwhile Polonia went on to win the Lowther at two and the Flying Five and Abbaye at three.

I worked for Charlie Nelson when he had Minstrella (sadly never rode her) but she was a darling. A pretty butch individual for a 2yo filly but really did suffer badly when FF bumped her - she was sore for days afterwards with bruising. She started to bleed at 3 hence not training on and returned to her owner, Edward P Evans in the US - can't remember if she bred anything of note.
