Films

Just watched Taxi 4.

The original was a classic, the sequel a laugh, the third poor, the american remake awful. This really was unspeakable.

Watched it earlier tonight, looks good Gareth, J J Abrams is quite good.

Transformers took $152 million in its first week. The second highest opening ever behind Spiderman 2, cant wait for the release. I would love to know why there wasnt a worldwide release?

Because they want to lose money to piracy and file-sharing.

Seriously, there's no excuse in this day and age.

At least you'll get to see it before the summer is out. The new Pixar film, Ratatouille, got a mid-summer release in the States. Disney - in their infinite wisdom - have decided to hold it over in the UK until October!

Did anyone see Pan's Labyrinth? Really well made - the best film I've seen this year although very long, probably too long.

Seen some really bad films this year but Tell No One, a French thriller, is pretty good.

Has anyone seen the film. La Vie En Rose?
I would like to see it as I read a book on Edith Piaf and was interested enough to download some of her songs to hear her voice. If the film is a truthful account of her life it will be interesting to watch.
In the film she is played by Marion Cotillard and from what I have read she gives quite a realistic portrayal of Edith.

enjoyed Hot Fuzz....what did you make of it Euro?

I`ve not seen in yet. £14 at Asda, too dear. Especially as they were selling the Harry Potter book for a fiver.

I watched Dirty Pretty Things on BBC2 the other night with Audrey Tautou and thought it was excellent.

Saw that when it came out. Decent, well made film with a couple of very strong lead performances but I thought it was lacking something.

Caught Die Hard 4.0. Average at best, the last half hour was ludicrous.

The Bourne Supremacy was previewed at the cinema and looked really interesting. I haven`t seen the two preceding movies as i read the books and didn`t like them (Ludlum is a very inconsistant writer) but i`m gonna chack them out now.

Also purchased a couple of DVD`s for my film club - Network and Kagemusha

The Bourne books bear very little resemblance to the films but the films are top class, agree about Die hard 4, very shoddy, plus the over-enthusiastic language editing was awful

Watched a couple this weekend.

Jarhead - Didn't have high expectations, expecting a cheesy American action flick, but was pleasantly suprised. Strong performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx.

Babel - Enjoyable, not sure the story was that strong, but well put together. Can't remember too many films that cut from a lonely mountain top in Morocco and a couple of young goat farmers, straight in to a technicolour Tokyo nightclub from the perspective of a deaf-mute.

The Mexican sequence in Babel annoyed the hell out of me; just seemed to be really stupid people doing really stupid things to the point where you lost any sympathy for them.

A film entirely about the Japanese sequence would have been something.
