A SUCCESSFUL week for Sakhee's Secret has prompted Stan James to clip the July Cup winner into 11/8 from 2/1 to be this season's leading European first-season sire by number of winners. The news, which sees the Whitsbury Manor Stud stallion usurp New Approach as favourite, was announced on Sunday after Ziggy's Secret became his ninth winner when scoring at Pontefract.


To date, Sakhee's Secret has sired nine winners from 29 runners (31%) who have earned approximately £37,000.


"After yet another winner for Sakhee's Secret today," said Joseph Burke of Stan James, "and following plenty of support for him during the week, he has now taken over the mantle as outright favourite at 11/8 in our Leading First Season Sire market."

Stan James have also introduced 2,000 Guineas winner Henrythenavigator, who stands at Ashford Stud in Kentucky, into the market at 14/1. The son of Kingmambo is well represented in Europe and has sired six winners including Coventry Stakes runner-up Cristofo Colombo.

Burke said: "There have been plenty of enquiries about Henrythenavigator, who currently lies third in the table, so we have consequently introduced him to the market at 14/1.

"We are effictively only at the half-way stage of the season and there are a plethora of two-year-old maidens that are yet to be run, so this is a market that promises many more changes before the winner is confirmed."

The Duke took time finding his feet as a racehorse;had he not a fracture that had to be screwed which may have been due to bone immaturity at 2yo. I have no details of the nature of fracture or the history. APOB told how he spent his 3yo career "running with screws"( I hope he did not mean trainee Gardai at Templemore)

Fracas is an interesting one. From an excellent stallion family.A €100,000 yearling purchase he was a late foal,April 25th. Unraced at 2 he got off to a quick start at 3.Maiden, Grp 3, Grp 2. He ran 4th in the Derby before getting injured in the Irish Derby. He eventually won again on his return but didn't continue on the upward curve. He only had 15 foals in his first two crops (he's in the boonies) It was interesting to see the good judges who bought the few offered at the Sales.
