Green Impact (Jessie Harrington)
Saw this colt at the start of juvenile maiden Curragh Sat June 29.
As nice a hose as I have seen all season, Shane Foley informed me he is lovely in every way.
Just pipped at the finish but this Wooton Bassett ex Galileo mare from family of Power, Footstepsinthesand etc could have a future. Owned by Marc Chan.

Excellent 4-5 at 2yrs when ending his campaign with Group 1 glory in the Futurity at Doncaster. Not disgraced when second in the Dante at York on return but failed to build on it when eighth in the Derby at Epsom. Remains one to consider though now stepped up in trip.

Won 2 Group 3s as a 3-y-o, namely Chester Vase and Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury, before ending the season with a fine second in the St Leger. Needed the run on return and latest second in Ormonde at Chester was respectable. Can come on again.

Dual winner at 2 yrs. Has taken his form up a notch this term, second in Derby Italiano at Rome before an excellent third of 14 to Calandagan in King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot (12f). Very much one to consider with his stamina drawn out more.

Displayed plenty of zip when making a winning nursery debut fitted with blinkers at Sandown last August. Better form when second on next 3 starts, running notably well when second to the very progressive James's Delight on 6f Rowley course reappearance. Excuses in Palace of Holyroodhouse since.

Ancient Wisdom - WON 6/4f - was a Group 1 winner at two and he did what was expected of him on this drop in grade, having struggled around Epsom when eighth in the Derby. A horse with a pronounced knee action, the rain the course had seen was a big help, as was the fact he was gifted an easy lead, and he'll face a tougher task in the Great Voltigeur, but he thrived in the autumn last season and could easily make up into a leading St Leger contender. Paddy Power cut him to 6-1 (from 10s) for the Doncaster event.RP

Arrest - 2nd 9/2 - had ground conditions more in his favour this time, although even more rain wouldn't have gone amiss. He ensured a reasonable gallop but ultimately has no answer as the winner came past and has still to win above Group 3 level. RP

Royal Supremacy - 2nd 9/2 - placed in the Italian Derby and King Edward VII at Royal Ascot, was keen in a steadily run race bit briefly threatened to put in a challenge to the winner. He's yet to win in 2024 but can likely find a Listed prize.RP

Two Tribes - 4th 17/2 - stepped up on his below-par Royal Ascot handicap run back over this more suitable trip.RP

Consistent type who deservedly opened his account when landing the odds in 1m Thirsk maiden last month. Has gone close on each of his 3 starts in handicaps this season, including at Yarmouth (1m, good to firm) a fortnight ago, and should give another good account.

First run since leaving George Boughey when career best when winning 11-runner handicap at this C&D (good, 17/2) 28 days ago, avoiding some of the interference but coming from a long way back in a short space of time. That form is working out and he's worth a chance to follow up.

Made the breakthrough at Group level with a comfortable success in the Duke of Cambridge at Royal Ascot (1m, good to firm) 23 days ago, looking suited by a switch to front-running tactics. Her stable is bidding to win this for the third time in 5 years.

EBT’S GUARD - 3rd 4/1 - upped 5lb for a recent second at Yarmouth, was closing quickly on the leaders when forced to switch in the final furlong. He has had few chances over a mile on slow ground and still looks to be improving.RP

RUNNING LION - last 4/1 - who received a good ride from the front when winning the Duke Of Cambridge at Royal Ascot, cut out quickly this time, eased off late with something presumably amiss.RP

NATIVE KING - 4th 11/8f - raced in rear, didn’t find anything but passed a couple of tired horses late on.

Definitely interested in Ancient Rome. He did me a nice favour at Goodwood last year and he ran far too hard and fast at Ascot on his seasonal debut as though that was the plan for his next run. I thought the target was back to Goodwood so surprised to see him out at Newmarket. Btw, is Spencer currently banned?

Got banned for 8 days for whip abuse at ascot.

Yes, that would be a real surprise since he’s supposed to be running at Ascot :D

Results:

AL SHABAB STORM - Won 6/4f - tracked leaders, smooth headway to lead 3f out, ridden to go clear over 1f out, kept on.

ANCIENT ROME - 2nd 18/1 - towards rear, pushed along 2f out, ridden and stayed on over 1f out, went 2nd towards finish, not trouble winner.

GLOBAL SKIES - 7th 33/1 - raced keenly, held up in last pair, moderate late headway, never threatened.

WOODLEIGH - 6th 22/1 - held up in rear, ridden over 2f out, never involved.

MOYOLA - 5th 5/2jf - chased leaders, pushed along over 2f out, ridden and weakened over 1f out.

I was pretty pleased with AR. Think Spencer might have got him going sooner. Wonder if he will turn up at Goodwood....🤞

Result: Sea King - 3rd 5/1 - with blinkers on again, didn't get the run of the race, finding trouble as the field bunched but running on well enough when switched inside to suggest he should continue to give a good account.RP

Wootton Bassett colt. Dam, maiden (stayed 13.5f), half-sister to smart 6f winner Alphabet. 8/1, neck second of 14 in maiden at the Curragh (7f, good to soft) 26 days ago, clear of rest. Sets a solid standard with debut form working out well.
