Flatties to follow 2024

Reckon this has been the plan for a while, had to abort his gp2 looksee owing to coughing in the stable.
Has his own pacemaker, but much depends on which Auguste Rodin turns up.

Result:

Elegant Man - 4th/8 10/1 - was running on turf for the first time and was probably not helped by an easing in the ground. That said, this was an ambitious target for a colt who gained his 113 rating with a Newcastle handicap win in March.RP

Couple caught my eye last week. At Sandown on the Thursday eve meeting I liked the run of EBT's Guard in the mile handicap for 3yos. This fella is out of a Nathaniel mare so I'm thinking he'll improve for further but having said that he was a bit keen here so I'm not totally sure what his optimum trip is. I backed Zipster in this race and he hated the soft ground, EBT's guard didn't look all at sea on it but he did change his legs four or five times in the last half furlong so better groound would be optimal.

The other horse is Boyfriend for the Hannon's. This colt "enjoyed" a typically awful Pat Dobbs ride at Goodwood on Friday. Drawn 1 rather than race just behind the pace he was three deep on the rail, didn't get a run and ended up being taken back and around the field before finishing like a train. He's interesting going forward hopefully with Levey up top.

Stay awake, mon brave o_O

Result: - WOODLEIGH, WON 9/2 who'd caught the eye when a distant third over C&D on heavy ground on his seasonal reappearance last month (form has worked out very well), was theoretically 9lb lower (taking into account a 5lb claim) on this occasion and made no mistake. He tends to come off the bridle early on in his races, but stays well and will surely appreciate a return to 7f at some stage.RP

Built on promising Brocklesby fourth when landing 7-runner maiden at Thirsk (5f, heavy), making all. However, was behind Tanager when last of 6 at Ascot since and headgear now applied.

Cracking servant to connections who has looked as good as ever this spring, runner-up in back-to-back competitive Newmarket handicaps prior to a rare below par display at York. Appeals as the type to bounce back quickly and he's a strong each-way candidate.

Shamardal filly. Half-sister to several winners, including winner up to 1½m Midterm and 9f/1¼m winner Mori, both smart. Dam winner up to 1½m (2-y-o 1m winner), including 6 Group/Grade 1s. Much better for debut when winning maiden at Lingfield (8f, AW) in November. Respected under a penalty.

Successful off similar mark at Wolverhampton (8.6f) last September and, following a low-key, three-race stint in Dubai, he shaped well back on these shores when sixth of 15 at Newmarket (7f, good) where he was hampered at a crucial stage. One to consider back up to a mile with William Buick aboard.

Results:
Atherstone Warrior - ran a lot better than last time, but that’s him finished his three runs - won for us after the note.
Dutch Decoy - another one we lose and he didn’t deliver
Indelible - WON - ran on well and won nicely as PB has already reported.
Jungle Mac - 3rd 7/1 - Led, headed and carried badly right over 1f out, lost second and weakened final 110yd
Koy Koy - 6th 9/2f - reportedly didn’t act on the track.

Excellent 4-5 in his juvenile season, ending his campaign with Group 1 glory in the Futurity at Doncaster (1m, heavy). No match for Economics but ran well enough to think he's trained on when second in the Dante at York on his reappearance. Shapes as if he'll stay 1½m. Any ease in ground in favour.

Form tailed off after a highly promising start last term but firmly back on track and looked unlucky not to win when neck third behind Knicks at Chester (5.1f) 24 days ago, finishing with a flourish. Nudged up 2 lb but well worth considering now he's back on track.

I haven't been following this thread at all - no offence Bj - but reckon one worth mentioning is Dance Sequence from today's Oaks.

I think Buick sent her to the front at least half a furlong too soon and she ran very green once in front. Maybe she wasn't acting on the track but she was losing momentum right left and centre - almost literally - with her antics.

Once she matures and learns to race professionally she will be a bit of a tool, at least in fillies/mares-only races. Appleby suggested an autumn campaign with the Breeders Cup meeting in mind and that will give her plenty of time.

Running Lion looked a real threat until Oisin went for a gap that was closing on him, from that point she was eased considerably and is better than the result suggests.

Funny I thought she ran a bit flat. She had a gap but Oisin didn’t have enough horse under him to go for it. Then she picked up as the others were starting to fold. I thought she’d run better than that though and would give her another chance.

One I was going to put up was Clarendon House as I thought he was in there to keep the weights down for Cowells other runner which ended up second. But then when I rewatched the race to see if he’d been “stopped...ahem...!” Out of the stalls, it was a proper Hamlet moment! So I’m not so sure now. He goes to Ascot for the Kings Stand I think?

Results:

Ancient Wisdom - 6th - was effectively the Appleby third-string, with Arabian Crown and the ill-fated Hidden Law not making it to the race. Drying ground at this unique course was never going to suit and he was unable to build on his so-so return in the Dante. Winner of last season's Futurity on heavy, he could again come into his own in the autumn.RP

Arisaig - WON 100/30 - , back down in class, found the gap open up against the often favoured stands' rail and fairly flew home while others faded. Things fell right here but she may develop into a useful type and will always have the option of fillies' only company.RP

Due For Luck 3rd 6/1 -raced with the choke out from his good draw but ran at least as well as on his reappearance, despite meeting trouble at a crucial stage. He should continue to run well granted a suitable test of speed.RP (unlucky again)

Global Skies 5th 10/1 - Steadied start, in rear, headway over 2f out, kept on, no impression (op 11/1 tchd 14/1)

Can you take Global Skies off the list Bar?
