My father is haunting me today...

"Hoose full o' second prizes"

What do we think of Afaaks chance in the Golden Mile tomorrow. I am sure someone mentioned him on here a run or two ago. Maybe 20/1 is a good price each way?

I like either him or Vale Of Kent. Hmmm. Tricky choice.

Vale Of Kent's Goodwood record 32142. Those weren't 3K races either - All top handicaps!

Nap of the week goes Friday although the price has gone. Desert Encounter has rightly gone fav in the Glorious Stakes. Track/ground are his optimal and he pissed this race last year.

I'm tempted with a couple of draw based lays. One Master is the clear class horse in the Oak Tree but from the 1 gate she is surely gonna need a shed load of luck.

In the Golden Mile Montatham is 6/1 but is out in 15. No chance from that draw and I will place lay him.

Putting this one up early as my gut tells me it will develop into a gamble over the next 36 hours and could go off as short as 9/4.

In Friday's Golden Mile, I think Prompting is a superb bet at 6/1. I've gone in heavily at the price. Despite a 3lbs penalty he's still 6lbs well in and has an inside draw. The main dangers on form are drawn wide and he won going away last time at 7f so has the speed to race just off the pace rather than from further back. Tudhope can't do the weight and doesn't come down for the stablemate.

If this one loses it will hurt...

Now 7/2 tops.

I just need to decide now whether to take a profit or let it ride.

Does anyone know if the stewards cup draw is drawn randomly or do they draw trainers and let them choose

Gordon Stakes didn't do anything to harm the Derby form. Winner beaten 7l and the 2nd 14.
:D

Oak Tree Stakes 1.45
Valeria Messalina was beaten a neck by triple gp3 winner in last term's Oh So Sharp and improved on that to win her own gp3 at Cork this year. Needs to defy 3lb penalty today, but the booking of Frankie suggests they fancy their chances.10/1 in places.

Golden Mile 2.45
Though he's undoubtedly well handicapped and well drawn, Prompting faces an entirely different class here, with not 1 runner rated as low as the 0-80 field he beat last week.
Hunt Cup winner Sir Busker is a different proposition, passing all bar the winner from a poor draw in the Bunbury Cup, latest.

Glorious Stakes 3.45
Pablo Escobar performed well over an inadequate trip at Newbury latest and ought to improve enough to take this.
Bet of the day, 11/2 in places. 6/1 generally.

Very surprisingly for me, I'm struggling to see past the short shots today. I think despite their prices they might all be value.

I'm not worried about One Master's draw. It isn't a handicap and they'll probably sort themselves into a narrow pack quite early.

I would have Khaloosy much shorter than his price. I'd back him to beat any of the Guineas contenders and can see him winning a G1 somewhere before the end of the season.

Battaash is Battaash. He's a very high class sprinter in a bunch of mediocrity. Can't see him not winning.

I'm on Prompting at 6/1. If I wasn't I'd probably still back him at 7/2.

The only down side is that I might not get to see the racing live on TV as Mrs Orchid is talking about us going for a drive somewhere today.

I've only just realised I didn't read this closely enough. I jumped to the conclusion concerns were based on the outside draw. I'd much rather be drawn right on the inside than on the wide outside. Simon Rowlands has an analysis somewhere about the draw in the Golden Mile and concludes that the inside is the second-best place to be (a few wider is ideal) so I'm more than happy with the rail berth.

Or what about Willie John. He's had the chop. :)

In to 12/1 so Willie John it is for me.

Le Don De Vie shortening up all the time in the Queens Plate. He's come through the top handicaps. I was with Pablo Escobarr but haven't put my bet on yet. I am changing to Le Don De Vie now.

V late after meeting over ran (don’t they understand it’s Goodwood?!) so spent v little time looking.
1. Hard not to like Al Qaqaa but may have a bit ew on Celestran
2. Going for two ew in Shadn and Agincourt
3. Leave
4. Bless Him ew
5. Leave
6. Spirit of Appin ew
7&8 Leave

Willie 8s now. Looks like a smash up. Hope he lands the odds.

I won't beat about the bush, you have been ******* excellent this week Maurice ! Brilliant mate chuffed for you.

A very rare 5pt bet for me, the type I usually reserve for odds-on football bets.

I hope others were persuaded!

Something clearly not right about Khaloosy today. Never looked like winning. Cost me a 25+/1 four-fold with One Master, Battaash and Prompting.

Euronymous was right about One Master. She did need luck to get out of trouble (as did Prompting) and I notice all the jockeys seem to be keeping them close to the far rail up the straight, causing all sorts of traffic problems. Something to bear in mind for tomorrow.

I have taken Swindler in the Stewards Cup.

He was beaten at short odds as a youngster, but upped his game after being gelded (how many times have we said this about a showcase handicap winner?), and might have more improvement to come. 12s is a good price to have a go at. I wouldn't put anyone off any of our other poster picks in the race though. So long as one of us gets the winner this is the main thing.

I've done 5 in the stewards cup for different reasons and probably still wont get the winner.
KIMIFIVE got 25/1 I have always backed this but needs a lot of luck.young fallen claiming 3lb is a bonus.
OPEN WIDE 33/1 is another one I've followed and will need the gaps.last year it opened up just right and he flew into 2nd.
HEY JONESY you would think this course would be ideal and after the wokingham I have to back it again.
SUMMERGHAND just lost out in the wokingham but O'meara went and won a £6000 race with him so hes worse off now.didnt make sense to me but you still cant rule it out.
STONES OF DESTINY is well in with a lot of these but the drift is worrying.

In the consolation race I've done CALL ME GINGER 9/1 needs the ground to keep drying.
