Not really sure what to make of this meeting this year with the uncertain weather. This is a track you really want proper summer ground for.

Decs out for the first day and I've had a shufty through them. The horses who caught my eye were Raasel who is very solid in the opener if a bit short. Haatem (Vintage) ran an absolute smasher behind City of Troy at the July Meeting but he also ran well in the Woodcote and the Cov and I don't really trust the trainer to keep a horse sweet over a sequence of runs. Millebosc in the 10f handicap ran a good race from a bad draw/terrible position out the back in the John Smith's. Again like Raasel he's fairly short. I was thinking of sticking all three in an ew trix. Speaking of trainers I don't trust, I'd normally be interested in Isaac Shelby in the Lennox but Meehan? Urgh.

Take the rest of the week as it comes but at this stage I have rollovers going onto Perfuse in the 12f handicap on the Wed (he's also entered up over 10 on Thursday) and the French filly in the Nassau. No major fancies in the Golden Mile or Stewards and ultimately I just hope the rain stays away.

Win, lose or draw, Goodwood is one of my favourite meetings of the season.

Apart from my two ante-post bets in the Stewards' Cup and one in the Golden Mile (Blue For You, 10/1), I haven't looked at the form yet. I've got the Tuesday card ready to print off and hope to sort it this evening.

Hopefully the weather stays clement and we get nice ground.

I too love Goodwood although sadly I’m not going this year. And may have a friend staying so that could make watching on the telly box harder.....

Looking at a few, but nothing firm. Something often comes out of the woodwork in 2yo races, but going to have to be pretty good to beat Array. Kinross ran a solid race behind Shaquille in the July Cup at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago and can’t see much to trouble Courage Mon Ami in the Goodwood Cup. Look decent favourites for Tuesday.

I’ve always loved Glorious Goodwood. My dad used to take a coachload from our pub and I used to tag along. The first big gamble of the day cost you ten bob (big money in those days :D). One of the wheels used to be chalked up with the seat numbers and the winner was the number touching the ground when we stopped for the first pee-break. Won it one year which didn’t go down too well with the customers, but gave me riches miles beyond my miserable pocket money - lost the lot

I reckon the difference in price between the big two is wrong so I’ve taken the filly each-way (2pl) at 4/1 BOG. If they both run their race I can’t see how the others get near them and, of the pair, I think there’s maybe more chance that Paddington might not run his race having already run five times in 17 weeks, the last three of them in G1s and the last twice in fast times. He’s also coming back from ten furlongs and the runner-up that day, Emily John, bombed in the King George at the weekend. If they go easy, Inspiral could well do him for toe and for me, all things considered, I think she’s a bet worth taking. If she runs second I’ll get my dough back.

Can't say I've thought about the Sussex at all really just went passed it on the oddschecker list when it was in their ante-post section. Agree 4s does seem too big on Inspiral given the uncompetitiveness of the race. She was on the back foot from the get go in the Queen Anne being slow out the stalls and of course she threw the QE2 away when she broke terrible. I wonder if it's a straight track Ascot thing?

Only bet is an Emily Dickinson/Isaac Shelby ew double. That goes against my frustration on the pace map thread but I couldn't pull the trigger on an Isaac Shelby single given the trainer.

Had a small ew on Ancient Rome in the handicap. He’s been moved from France to Charlie Hills and has Spencer on board. It’s more an interest so I don’t kick myself if he wins, as I think the other ex French horse which is fav and with Haggas is probably the one to be on.

Boom! Backed it at 20s last night and again at 40s...happy days! I loved this horse as a 2 year old and he’s been in my tracker ever since. Not surprised by this result at all! God I love Spencer!

Horse has done it before and you don’t let him get that far in front especially on a course like Goodwood where as Megan said, the jockey can fill up the lungs on the downhill part. It was an excellent ride by one jockey...rubbish by the rest!

 there’s safety in numbers, no-one gets blamed for chasing a run-a-way leader and blowing up. Just a joint moan for letting him get away.

I've only got bets in two races today, that first TV race and the G1 and am relieved about that.

Talk about a goat making donkeys of us.

I hope someone on here backed it.
