Has anyone been to Marseille?

No but know people who have. Bit of a dump ive heard

EC. Love cromer. Wonderul little pier. Fresh crabs everywhere and some of the best fish and chips ive tased

Yeah, but I think it's undergone a lot of regeneration the last few years and there is certainly some interesting things to visit ... it's more as a day trip and to see a footy game as part of a week away. Would think Aix is more my cup of tea but always good to see an interesting city while you're so close.

If you fancy a trip to the Riviera, Hamm, head for St Tropez but get on the first ferry across to Port Grimaud. It's a beautiful little spot built around canals, and whilst quite touristy, it's a charming place.

Have heard some good things about Salzburg - what's it like?

I went in the Winter with the ladyfriend so it consisted of excessive Sound of Music based activities (was on loop on the hotel TV!) and walking through lots and lots of snow!

Nice town but wouldn't want long there really. Probably a nicer town in Summer though.

Berlin's really cheap to get around via public transport. A hop-on hop-off ticket for 24h on trains and buses cost about 6 euros (March '10).

And Snowdonia's fab but I can't promise you'd get any sun!

I went to Edinburgh a couple of years ago, only had a fast day tour with a friend who lived in the Highlands. Really wanted more, lots to see, do, hear and eat! Would love to go back and spend a few days.

I was in the west coast of France for the weekend - went racing at Les Sables d'Olonne by chance - lovely racecourse, and there were some Aga Khan, Niarchos family and Sheikh Mohammed runners - €5 in, and good viewing.

Went to La Rochelle (too touristy for me by the port) and Ile de Re on Sunday, the latter is absolutely stunning. 3km bridge links it to the mainland - beautiful island, and a popular holiday destination - clearly most people there are on holidays but I didn't find it tacky or touristy, and having breakfast overlooking the port was fantastic - would recommend it to a couple or young family.

Cheers - looks really nice.

Best with some romance involved I'd imagine!

Booked a week in Montenegro for September although flying into Dubrovnik, may take in Serbia too as the journey from Bar to Belgrade (fly back from Belgrade) is supposed to be absolutely stunning by train, if a little dangerous given how neglected the railways in the Balkans are.

Keen to take Kotor and Budva in.

Anyone been before?

I went to Montenegro about 5 years ago and visited both Kotor and Budva. Can highly recommend Kotor. It`s set in a stunning bay surrounded by mountains and has a superb walled old town...beautiful place.

Not so keen on Budva. When I was there it was like a building site with hotels and apartments being built everywhere...destroying the character of the place. I was told it was the fault of the Russian mafia who are said to virtually control the country:(. I found a lot of poverty in the country, with beggars in most places.

If you get the opportunity, I would recommend visits to Sarajevo and Mostar on your way home...fascinating places. As is so much of the Balkans.

Barcelona has been selected...

it amazes me how many people tip Barcelona to go,
it should not be in the top 20 in Spain
places like Madrid, Santander, San Sebastian, Granada, Valencia, Sevilla, Mallorca or Salamanca are miles away.

My favorite holidays are going to parks in the States

Yellowstone and Grand Teeton are amazing
Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Zyon are also tremendous.
Everglades in florida also is worth a go if you are in Miami.

places I want to go in a near future are Alaska and Jasper and Banff in Canada.

Mexico has also plenty places to go, but sadly the secuiry there now is not a plus to go.

Blackpool is lovely Ali - far worse places to go to, especially if you're going with the girls for a party weekend or to see the illuminations.
