Horses we would like to see retired...

If it's not on here, it must be on Atacanta, but I'm sure Trudi says there's a rule where if a horse is PU X number of times in quick succession, it's likely to be asked to be taken out of training by the BHA, or refused further entries. Of course, one could come up with six different reasons, but it's not showing much promise, is it?

I've long since given up on trying to understand the logic in keeping Frill A Minute in training.
The dam Superfrills won her fair share of races for connections but if they put this one in a 4 horse race against the worst sprinters from the Nolan,Grayson & Berry stables it would still finish last.
At least Basford Lady won a bumper (and that was at Chelters!!!).

I always remember Teddy finishing 3rd to Grand Palace the race after his win at Wolves four years ago, depresses me looking at those old races on the database seeing how much better the prize money was for a low grade race.
I keep thinking one day Grand Palace may come to form but it is probably wishful thinking to see that happen.

Its on atacanta - and i said there used to be a rule where a horse was suspended after 5 non completions - and that I didnt know if it was still about.

One would presume its not with some of the form that is around these days !!! :)

The BHA write a letter to the trainer after a certain amount of non-completions, and it's not always as many as five, either. Basically they point out that they are only accepting entries from there-on in on a discretionary basis and asking for explanations, etc, before taking further action.

Thanks for that, Shadz. That sounds like a humane course of action - perhaps it should be taken for a few we know!

Good to know that they havent ditched the idea completely - the theory is good for everyone, just the practice needed tweaking, and from the sounds of things thats happened :)

found my letter about it - it was Instruction J18 (and there are at least 3 parts to it, cos they drew my attention to part 3 which said that if all the non completions were in steeplechases, then the horse can run in races other than chases - likewise for hurdle races - but if the horse hadnt completed in a mixture of the two, then it could be suspended from both.)

looks like Celestial Halo might as well pack the game in..he's down to selling class :)

Not today - but for the mistake he would have won the Kingwell - clearly loves Wincanton . I think they put AP on the wrong horse .

i'm one of his fans Ardross - that was indeed heavy sarcasm due to the discussion we had a week ago on the CHurdle thread

its odd how he loves Wincanton 2 miles as that wouldn't be the stamina trip they think he needs..as you said on other thread..maybe they should stick to 2 mile hurdles with him now

After that last run, Crazy, I'm inclined to think yes, he's probably done enough to warrant collecting his pension.

Bally Conn, if he doesn't show some return to form on his next run.

All credit to the Hills for solving whatever was ailing him when he moved to their stable, and for winning four races in quick succession with him, but his problems seem to have returned and he has spent enough of his career encumbered by infirmities.

Such a lovely horse, too - saw his (I think, from infirm memory) his first run at Fontwell Park for Hen. I think BrianH was there to see him, too. Looked like a real horse for the future, but sadly just didn't fire with that yard.

His first run was a win at Towcester on Hennessy day, Kriz, and BrianH, Shadow Leader and Rorydelargy watched it together in a box (ooh, fancy that!) at Newbury.

But I was lucky enough to be where the real action was on that never to be forgotten day, my first outing on my first venture into ownership.

Well, as I say, the old memory bank's a bit low on coinage these days! I can well imagine that trio in a box - with Shadow Leader's massive punt money, no problem affording it at all!

You're not implying that the trio gate-crashed, are you, Grey? You know that Lord Hartigan - swan in anywhere, expecting to be taken for Michael Caine!

Hah! I had a long-standing invitation to that box!! If memory serves, Rory wasn't there, but his fiancée certainly was. Lord H was there at invitation from myself also. I'd also like to add that it was an agonising decision to go to Newbury rather than Towcester (despite the long-standing box invitation!) yet one that was confirmed on receiving an email the evening before from the head of the partnership telling is that although declared, Connor was almost certain not to run....

I hope Krizon enjoyed seeing Gavroche Gaugain win today. It would seem the owner and trainer were right and you were wrong!

No - was busy elsewhere having fun, but the horse's record is still godawful for staying upright. I'll be convinced when he stays on his feet for a few more races, regardless of outcome.
