Horses we would like to see retired...

I am always pleased to receive and provide laughs, cjboy. God knows we could use them! The purpose of any racing forum is surely to discuss all and any aspects of horse-racing which interest us - we put up stuff about horses we want to see, trainers who are rubbish, jockeys who should be shot, owners who are far too quixotic in their changes of trainers - you name it, we've got a word for it! Nothing personal intended, by the way, and thanks for thinking of me as a horsewoman! Given the shape I'm in these days, there's "retired" after that, as any horse who saw me eyeing it up for a wee ride would bolt to the nearest county.

Yes, all the best for GG, and certainly I am glad he's got to grips with what's wanted from him.

You could threaten to ride Chaninbar, krizon. In fact it could be a good career move for both of us..no need for long toms etc..just send a couple of ladies of a certain age down to the start threatening to ride them...

I love Chaninbar - have done since last season. Shame hes shouting as hard as he can that something is wrong and he doesnt want to do it !!!

Hope someone listens to him soon.

Is LOUGH DERG trying to call time? Today's result seems to indicate that at 11, unlike KAUTO STAR today, the fires are now down to embers level. Two 6s this season, and that's from a terrific record previously. Let's not turn him into another DEANO.

I truly love Lough Derg. At home he shows he still loves his work, this reluctance to race was a shock, not expected at all. His owner adores him also. He has had hard races and always wanted to go to work again. He's a nosy beastie, has head over door, kicks door if no one comes to chat. And if he hears the lorry and other horses going he always wants to go to. On the gallops he is keen.

But, maybe time has caught up with him. He has a forever home at the yard, so if it has he will be retired. I'm just hoping he does not have some niggling injury bothing him. Fingers crossed he will be okay.

Apparently the BHA will no longer accept entries for Chaninbar having examined his entire racing career - including a couple of refusals to race whilst still trained in France.

Effectively forced to retire. Pity, as on a going day he is a good horse.

Was made bankrupt Simon so yes, Meritta Jones held a license for him for a month or two, but then pulled the plug.

Merrita held the licence for a couple of weeks, but wasn't pleased that Milton was trying to run things, so handed her licence in in disgust. Milton has been deemed an unsuitable person to hold a licence, but clearly retains his involvement. You may notice a familiar figure chasing after the reluctant Chaninbar at Cheltenham if you look at the replay. Not sure if he has any official capacity at Martin Keighley's yard now, or if he just happened to be strolling past the 2m start, and thought he'd make himself useful. :D

For the record, I know that, as could any nitwit with access to form records. It was a testament to his decency that those occurred, when the horse was clearly uninterested in the work he was constantly given. He has consistently refused to be retrained, too, even declining a ride in the horsebox to be paraded, in case it led to yet another sour outing.

And today it's announced that he (LOUGH DERG) is retired. Excellent news. He'd paid them their due over the years and I'm glad the decision was taken to note what he'd been trying to signal to them for a little while.

He may have won the Hennessey a few weeks ago but Mattie Batchelor did not cover himself in glory today forcing old Kapelhoff round Fontwell till he fell 3 out!!! Not sure why he persisted with him as he was riding along all the way & at 14 years old maybe he was trying to say something!!! Just hope the old horse is ok,maybe someone can update.

The Tatling - while everyone's glued to the replays of the Champion Hurdle this old boy (14yo) will be running in his 162nd race off 20lbs lower than when btn 1L 14 months ago over C/D - I hope he wins and then retires now that would be a great story.

176th race and out with a bang at 16/1 - Truely magical :adore::adore:
