Hi Gearoid,

The Irish government are introducing a new on-line betting tax, that comes into affect on 01 Aug 2015. This requires all online bookmakers to hold an Irish remote gaming license.

From that date, we cannot accept any further transactions from our Irish customers until we receive approval of our remote gaming license by the Irish regulatory body. This only applies to customers in the Republic of Ireland. Customers from Northern Ireland are not affected.

The Irish regulatory body has advised us that it may take up to 12 weeks, before the granting of our remote gaming license. We are hopeful that the license will be granted, long before that.

We currently hold licenses from the UK Gambling Commission & the Maltese Gaming Authority, so the application process should be just a formality.

If you do not want to keep your funds in your account, during this time period, we advise you to withdraw your funds before midnight 31 July 2015.

If you decide to leave your account funded, do not worry as the full amount will be waiting for you when we receive the license and reopen our website to Irish customers. You can still withdraw funds, after 31st July, by contacting our service team and requesting that you wish to make a withdrawal.

We would like to apologise, unreservedly, for this inconvenience. Our Irish racing markets will remain live, for customers outside of Ireland, while we wait for the license to be issued.

RaceBets remains committed to Irish racing and we look forward to renewing our offer of racing markets for all Irish customers, as soon as possible.

If you have any concerns, please contact our customer-support team. You can do this via email (support.en@racebets.com), phone (+49 211 545546464) or by using the live-chat facility.

Yours sincerely,

RaceBets.com

Losing Pinnacle will be a disaster, Matchbook will be out too. Have Betfair any plans to pass on the charge?

Oh no, please no ! Their 1.15% comm rate is a godsend.

What I don't understand is why these offshore companies are obliged to pay this shitty tax to the Irish revenue?
Why can't they just ignore it?
Anyone?

I don't know but when I read the Racing Post on Monday my initial thought was good luck Pinnacle.

Government have the power to block website.

Government have the power to block website.
Are you sure?
Even when website is hosted abroad in some foreign jurisdiction?

If they can block, I'm left wondering why they don't do so with paedophile, race-hating, and terrorist websites?

Here in Belgium they block the websites of betting firms not licenced by the Belgian state, and only one or two have bothered to get one because one of the conditions is that they must have a physical presence here. To get around this barrier people would need to have an address and bank account outside Belgium and a VPN.

If they can block, I'm left wondering why they don't do so with paedophile, race-hating, and terrorist websites?

I presume it's because the bookmakers will accept being blocked while the others can find ways round any attempt to suppress them.

I withdrew 760 from sportingbet last week and the feckers wanted account verification.

Had the account awhile with and was never a problem, obviously must be trying to catch the odd irish customer out and not pay whats owed.

Only reason l can think of when they would of known that this week the account would be closed.

I also have some ante post bets that are still alive but fooked and no void of them l better ring them.

Aye, I would think that is a fair reasoning. They now see their Irish clientele as fodder who can no longer bet with them, so why not try and make it as difficult as possible to withdraw funds knowing that these accounts (Irish) are defunct.

Just rang them over the money owed and the un settled ante post bets, they are now saying any bets placed before 1st August will stand.

That's fair enough and does make sense but l got the same email as above and it clearly says "Any non-settled bets will be voided and the funds returned to your Sportingbet account".

He then said you can request any bets before the 1st Aug to be voided ,l obviously took that option so he says l will send them up to the traders to make a decision.

It seems a bit of a mess to me,,they want it all ways .

Hills asked me for account verification for a similar amount to Rob a while back. Photocopy of passport or driving license..utility bill and bank card. A serial **** take given they do not ask for this when you deposit. The anal...neo liberal cunts. I got lucky on their online roulette once...think i got fifty quid up on one number...the next week the max i could place on an individual number was 15 quid.... So its not just the horses they dont lile taking winning bets on either and limit stakes on..no doubt some have been knocked back on steepledowns over the years. This whole issue of bookies not taking bets is the first thing the new forum of eight should be taking a good look at. Tayne Stephenson says people don't bet on horses anymore...maybe the bookies are the root cause of that?
